Hamish was pulled from Huddersfield pound at the end of October 2005, and was being fostered on behalf of the Oldies Club by his rescuer.
Since his arrival, Hamish had been quite crotchety and grumpy, this was put down to him being arthritic and once put on metacam he seemed to perk up considerably and be a lot more tolerant.
Sadly, on the 14th November Hamish refused food and showed other symptoms of being unwell, he also bit his fosterer’s hubby when he tried to give Hamish his anti inflammatorys.
We hoped that Hamish was having dental problems and that it was the pain of his teeth that was causing his lack of appetite, nobody had been able to look at Hamish’s teeth due to his temperament.
On the afternoon of the 15th, Hamish was anaesthetised so the vet could have a good look at what was going on in his mouth; his teeth were fine but he had an inflamed throat, further investigations led to the discovery of a tumour in his stomach… sadly, there was nothing that could be done so Hamish was released from his pain and not brought round from the anaesthetic.
Everyone at the Oldies Club would like to thank Julie for taking such good care of Hamish in his final weeks. It is a tragedy that there was no happy ending for him, but at least this oldie did not die alone in the pound.
Run free at the bridge Hamish.
