July 2009 – In true model style, Chavez is now attending therapy!

1.8.10  We are so sad to report that Chavez has died at the grand old age of 17.    Her family are devasated to lose her but she had become unwell and unable to walk unaided so they had to make the decision to let her go.   The amazing age she reached is testament to the love & care they gave her. Chavez really couldn’t have wished for a better retirement home.   Everyone at the OldiesClub sends their love and sympathy to her family.  We’ll all miss those wonderful updates on her exploits.  Run free Chavez.

Hi,

just a quick note to update you on the current activities of Chavez. As one of the more senior supermodels she though it was about time she started attending therapy – at ‘The Hainault Hydrotherapy Centre’ – where the lovely ladies guider her around the pool making sure she doesn’t exert herself but still make sure she makes the most of the warm water and massaging current to help keep her in tip top condition for her retirement years. We have attached a picture of her modelling this years designs in ‘floaty coats’ and putting it through it’s paces. So far she has attended three sessions and afterwards always has a new lease of life. After a tiring swim she relaxes by having a shower and blow dry before being chauffeured home for a sleep. It’s tough at the top!

Love

Chavez, Jaz, Lisa and Andrew.

June 2009 – The latest from beautiful Chavez

“Just thought I would mail to update you on how Chavez is doing. We have had her a year now and it seems like she has always been here. I can’t believe we have had a whole year of demanding ‘boo wooing’ to be taken out for a walk after her dinner ever night, even at nearly 16 years young! Unfortunately in the last few months she has started to limp a bit as her back legs are getting weaker and the lump she has on her elbow has got bigger, so she has been
put on drugs which have helped her a lot. She had also started to slip over on the tiles when they got wet so we decided to re tile the kitchen and extension with ‘Chavez friendly’ anti slip tiles which has ended up with us having a new roof and windows on the extension and a new kitchen! Don’t ask! I have attached a few photos showing you what she has been up to lately. A couple are of her helping out in the extension when we were chipping off the old tiles,
(she just wouldn’t move) another one is of her sitting in the very dusty hallway while the work was going on during the hottest day of the year so far with a frozen towel on her head to help cool her down (that she loved!) and the last one I have just taken is of her sitting on the flooded patio after the storm we have just had here in London. Finally she is due to start Hydrotherapy soon to help with her arthritis, so we will keep you updated on that.”

img_0256Phew, all that work makes a girl hot and bothered!

Fantastic photos – Chavez looking gorgeous as usual. Wonder who does her hair and make up.

December 2008 Chavez the Model has sent us a Christmas message and some very festive snaps from a recent photo shoot.

ChavezTree

Hi all at the Oldies Club, Chavez here,

Just thought I would send you a couple of my festive snaps. Things have calmed down a bit since the modelling high in the summer, just as well as my winter coat seems to make me look like I am carrying a few extra pounds!

Things are still going well here, my humans let me sit out in the garden every evening, like I did in the summer. I love just sitting there on the patio sniffing the air and pottering around, even at this time of year; They seem to find it a bit cold in the house as I won’t let them shut the back door when I am out there, as I like to keep coming back in to check they are OK. They keep muttering that they must be mad, while they are huddled up under a blanket on the sofa, but they can see the funny side of things as they laugh every time I come back in, open the front room door and do a big circle and walk back out again!

Anyway time to go back outside again, (it must be the Husky in me that likes the cold).

Have a great Christmas and New Year.

Love, Chavez.x

Oh! and Lisa, Andrew and Jaz.xxx

P.S I saw my picture on the Newsletter, more publicity!

September 2008 Chavez the Model has asked her PA to write to tell us about her latest modelling assignment:

ChavezModels

As promised, here is an update on Chavez ‘the models’ career since she has been with us.

At 15 years old Chavez was a late comer to the modelling scene, but after many comments on her walks she decided to pursue a late career in the modelling world.

On Sunday 14th September, after a pre show bath the day before, Chavez attended the WHAM ( woofers, hounds and mutts) dog show at Davy Down in Essex. She wowed the crowd with her looks and poise in the ‘Golden Oldies’ category and secured first place!!! She also gained ‘highly commended’ in the ‘Prettiest Bitch over 18 inches’ category and the ‘ best rescued bitch’ category and was automatically entered into the ‘best in show’ category as a result; but sadly lost out to a Saluki, Husky puppy and German shepherd puppy. Throughout the day she got alot of attention from people who were amazed at how good she looked for 15 and how relaxed she was throughout the day. She also put in an appearance at the Oldies Club stand where she met the two lovely ladies who were there doing a wonderful job representing the club.

Since her success, she refuses to eat out of the same bowl twice, wont leave the house without having a bath and demands fillet steak for tea! I think the success has gone to her head – we are thinking of renaming her Naomi, after a certain temperamental super model.

Oh well, got to go now as she is demanding another ‘markie’.

regards

Lisa and Andrew

We’ve received a letter from Chavez, kindly forwarded by her new mum:

Well, I’ve been here with my new family for nearly a month now and I am starting to settle in quite nicely. When I first arrived I had a good sniff around the garden and tried out the pond for size, I have attached a picture of me climbing out in a very un-ladylike manner! My new family told me that all dogs that visit do the same thing, so there was no need to feel embarrassed.

ChavezHomePond

My favourite place to lie is out on the patio sunbathing during the day and of an evening it’s by the back door on one of the new big beds that my family have brought for me and my new house mate Jaz, so that we can watch the world go by in comfort.

ChavezHomeBed

At bedtime I do a few laps of the upstairs rooms before making myself comfortable just inside the bedroom door so that I can keep an eye on everyone while they sleep. It was a bit of a shock to find out that one of the family gets up for work at 2 in the morning but I am starting to get used to it now.

We have 2 parks both within 5 minutes walk from the house so go there most days for our walks, sniffs and general doggy pastimes. I have had one dip in the lake, by accident though, as the duck weed that had settled on the top of the water looked like grass from a distance and I decided to try to walk on it and discovered that you can’t walk on water! Oh well, luckily enough it has been nice and sunny lately so it hasn’t taken me long to dry off.

That’s all for now, I’ll write again soon.

Chavez

Chavez’s new mum also said “We will keep in touch and send you more updates over the coming months. Thanks again for all of the support from all at the Oldies Club, I can honestly say that out of all of the rescue centres we have had dealings with you have been the most helpful and professional”.

All at the Oldies Club would like to say thank you very much for your kind comments!
