26 April 2011: We are very sad to advise that poor Lennie has passed away. Everyone at Oldies Club is very glad that he was able to find such a wonderful foster home to take care of him during his final months. Sleep tight lovely Lennie.
Lovely Lennie is a gorgeous Collie cross, who is thought to be around 9-10 years old and who arrived in Oldies Club care in October 2010.
Oldies Club had been contacted by a dog warden to ask if the charity could help Lennie, who had been signed over by his owners and could therefore, legally, have been put to sleep :(.
The charity was advised that Lennie had a tumour on his leg and that the condition was likely to be terminal. Generally Oldies Club aims to rehome dogs coming into foster care, into forever homes, after they have been assessed and received any necessary veterinary treatment. However sometimes there are dogs in difficult situations, who may not find help elsewhere, and in Lennie’s case the charity agreed to take him into foster care, with the view to making him a sponsor dog.
Isn’t he a lovely boy?
After Lennie had arrived and settled into foster care, Oldies Club paid for an operation to remove as much of the tumour as possible and to have tests carried out.
Very sadly, as a result of those tests, Lennie’s vet has given him a prognosis of only 6-12 months to live. However the good news is that Lennie is in a wonderful foster home and will receive all the love and care he could possibly want, for as long as he has left (and we all hope that it will be longer than expected).
Lennie is recovering well from his operation and his foster family tell us that he is a happy little chap who loves his food – and the birds’ food outside! He will also try to get into the kitchen bin if he thinks his foster family are not looking!
Lennie loves his walks and being in the garden and also loves to sleep. As you can see from the wonderful photos taken just before Christmas, by a volunteer (thank you so much, John!), Lennie is currently enjoying life with his foster family and we all hope he remains happy for a long time to come.
