Boxer (Oldies Club sponsor dog)

Little Boxer, is a 15 year old Jack Russell Terrier who came into Oldies Club care following the sad death of his previous owner. Boxer, so named because he was born on Boxing Day, had been home alone for some time, prior to arriving in Oldies Club care, with relatives popping in, so this must have been a difficult time for him.

Although Boxer is generally fit and healthy for his age, he is now very senile and can be grumpy. After determining that he was not going to be the easiest dog to rehome, Oldies Club made the decision to put Boxer into the sponsor dog scheme. This means Boxer will remain in the foster home which has come to love him and his special ways, with the charity paying his vet bills :)

Boxer was quite overwhelmed when first arriving in foster care and he took a while to settle. He had come from a home where he was the companion of an elderly owner and had therefore had company most of the time, but he is ok to be left for a few hours and he just goes to sleep (preferably on the sofa!).

He required an understanding home, used to the quirks of terriers, with no children or other animals, where he would be given a quiet place and time to settle in. He had a few accidents in the first days of arriving at his new foster home, partly due to the confusion of the house having wooden flooring and being surrounded by decking.

On walks, Boxer stays beautifully by your side on a lead, and off the lead will follow happily a few paces behind. Boxer’s hearing is not too good so he doesn’t respond to his name, however if you clap your hands he will come straight back to you. He is very loyal and will follow his owner everywhere. Although he neeeded a home as an only dog, he is fine meeting other dogs out and about, though scared of boisterous dogs, and does share his home with chickens and ducks and is very good around them :)

Boxer is very well behaved in the car, but we have been told that he can sometimes find longer journeys worrying.

Boxer likes to bury himself to go to sleep and will go to some lengths to make sure he is covered by his blanket with only his nose showing … he is so cute! He loves to go for a walk, sniffing all the way. He will bury his bones and often has his little nose covered in earth. He will chase a ball but not for long and not too far.

Boxer loves to be someone’s special boy. He is happiest on your lap or snuggled up next to you on a sofa. His idea of heaven is to be allowed to sleep on the bed with his owner. This little chap just wants to be loved and is very loyal and loving in return.
