Jess came into our care a very sick girl and despite extensive veterinary treatment and the love and devotion of her foster carer, she sadly had to be put to sleep on 14/5/11.
Jess’s foster carer has written this touching piece about her very special first foster dog:
Jessie came to me in early May. I soon had a feeling something wasn’t right with Jessie, she wouldn’t eat and was always sleeping.
I booked her into my vets for a checkup and this was where we first became aware of the mass in her abdomen. We booked her in for X-rays and the results were shocking. She sadly had a mass that had either taken over her kidney or was obstructing it. I was to try her on medication to see if there were any improvements. There was a slight improvement but she still wouldn’t eat so I began syringe feeding her.
As the days passed she became weaker until she was having problems going to the toilet and walking outside. I had to make the difficult choice to let Jessie go. It was heart breaking to see her finding simple things so hard. I took her to my vets where we laid her to rest in my arms.
She was a lovely lady who enjoyed my company and attention. She would come over to me for a cuddle or bark at me if I wasn’t giving her enough attention.
The picture I have chosen of her is special to me as it’s the only one I have with us together. Although you can’t see me next to her if you look closely in her eyes you can see me.
She was my first foster dog and I will never forget her.
Rest in peace Jess. You were only in our care a short time, but you touched our hearts.
