Sweet and gentle Lady has passed away after a short illness. She was a true fighter and, though frail, managed to spend some 18 happy months in Oldies Club care with never a complaint and always a waggy tail. Lady by name and lady by nature – she will never be forgotten by those whose lives were brightened by her lovely ways.
Lovely Lady is a 13 year old liver and white Springer Spaniel. She is really gorgeous and affectionate and lives up to her name. She arrived in rescue with another dog, who has since been permanently adopted, after a sad spell in boarding kennels due to a change of circumstance for her previous family. Her future was in doubt at one point, prior to coming into Oldies Club care, but thankfully the kennel owner kept her safe until Oldies Club was able to place her in a foster home.
Sadly some time after arriving in foster care, Lady’s breathing became very laboured even after mild exertion and she was coughing to clear her throat. Her foster Mum took her to the vets and an x-ray revealed a probably tumour on her lung. Lady does not appear to be in any pain and is still a happy girl who enjoys life in her foster home and her food and cuddles, so she has been given a course of steroids to see if they help and further action will be taken as and when it becomes necessary. Oldies Club decided with this news, that Lady should join the charity’s sponsor dog scheme, meaning she will remain in her lovely foster home on a permanent basis, with the charity covering her vet bills.
Lady settled into her foster home well, sleeping through her first night without a sound until woken up from a deep sleep on the sofa! She soon found her way round the garden and has been totally clean and non-destructive in the house. She will bark at the door to go out. She enjoys sleeping on your lap but stays downstairs on the sofa at night. She occasionally barks for seemingly no reason, but that could be due to the insecurity of all the recent changes in her life. She is fine to be left alone for a few hours and usually just sleeps quietly.
Lady has a wonderfully waggy tail and greets people with pleasure, especially if strokes are on offer. She was good with dogs she met in kennels and tends to ignore dogs she meets out and about and she seems fine with respectful children.
Lady enjoys a couple of short walks per day, but has arthritis, which causes her some discomfort and for which she is on medication, and she tends to tire and slow down after about 15-20 minutes. She walks very well on and off the lead and doesn’t pull. She travels well and is fine in the car. She just loves attention and being fussed and is happiest as the only pet. She will sit forever while being stroked or groomed and will put her head in your lap to get more. She loves to cuddle up on the sofa too. She also enjoys sleeping a lot, following her foster carer around, sniffing around the garden and short, gentle walks.
Lady half-heartedly chases cats and squirrels, but really seems to have no particular dislikes, though she will bark if shut in a room. She has cataracts, but can see. She has few teeth, but is able to eat dry dog food. Lady is partially deaf, so doesn’t often respond to calls, but can hear loud or high-pitched noises. Her foster Mum says she loves a stable and fairly quiet environment with lots of love and attention and tells us Lady is excellent company and lights up the home :)
According to Lady’s foster Mum, she is just a beautiful girl with the personality to match. She’s very sweet, affectionate and just loves human company. She adores any attention and being groomed – she will remind you if you stop! Although she lived with another calm, submissive dog in the past, she thrives on getting all the attention as an only pet. She enjoys a gentle walk but does not need much exercise and enjoys just pottering around a nice garden. She’s an absolute sweetheart.
