23 March 2012 ~ We are really sad to have to update Louis’ page with the news that he has passed away :( We’d like to say thank you to Louis’ wonderful foster family, who took such great care of him for us. Our thoughts are with them. Sleep tight Louis.

Louis is a 10 year old French Bulldog cross (he’s a bit bigger than a French Bulldog) who came into Oldies Club care because his owner could no longer give him the time and attention that he deserves.

Sadly whilst in Oldies Club foster care, Louis began fitting and, on veterinary advice, the charity arranged for him to him to have an MRI scan, at a cost to the charity of £2014. Unfortunately this revealed that poor Louis has a brain tumour :-( Everyone at Oldies Club was devastated at this news.

The vet noted a lot of inflammation around the tumour and hopes that with anti-inflammatories, Louis can be made more comfortable and his symptoms relieved for however long he has left.

Oldies Club has subsequently made Louis a sponsor dog, meaning he will remain in foster care, with the charity covering his vet bills for the rest of his life. We have set up a fundraising page for him, as above, and would be really, really grateful if you would make a donation towards the cost of Louis’ veterinary treatment. Every donation will make a difference. Thank you :-)

Oldies Club hopes very much that Louis will respond well to treatment and be able to enjoy life with his foster family for a while to come.

Please note that should Oldies Club supporters be generous enough to donate more than is needed for Louis’ vet bill, any excess money will be directed to the charity’s general fund and used to help other older dogs in its care.

Louis settled quite quickly at his foster home. Although he was a little unsure of the other dogs when he first arrived, he slept well straight away and was comfortable with his new family.

His foster family say he is ok to be left for a few hours and is usually found curled up with one of the other dogs upon the family’s return. He is not destructive but is a very affectionate dog who enjoys cuddles and company and wouldn’t cope well with being left for long periods.

Louis has lived with very young children previously and now lives with an 8 year old child; he is not nervous of children at all. His foster family says he is very relaxed with their child and visiting children :) He hasn’t lived with cats but does show interest if he sees one while out walking.

Louis does not hear well and his recall is non-existent and while he doesn’t wander far, his family walk him on a long lead which can be left to trail behind him. He loves being out and is generally good at meeting other dogs, although larger black dogs appear to make him nervous. He enjoys two walks a day. He travels well in the car and is happy to travel in a crate or with a seatbelt clip. He also likes to look out of the window.

We are told Louis reacts to animals on TV by barking once or twice and then trying to look behind the TV to see if he has scared them off! He loves attention and likes to get up on the furniture with his foster family :)

Louis is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea-treated. He has recently had a dental and had 10 teeth removed and the remainder cleaned, so he shouldn’t have any further problems with his teeth.

Louis’ foster family describe him as “Cuddly, handsome, funny and very sweet. Louis is a very lovely dog who seems to be very happy in our house where there are lots of dogs and someone is around most of the time.”
