17 March 2012 ~ We very sadly have to let you know that Tiny Charlie has passed away :( He took a sudden turn for the worse  and the vet felt that he was suffering so his fosterer made the difficult decision to let him go. Oldies Club is very grateful to his fosterer for looking after Charlie. Sleep tight, little one.

Charlie is an adorable 14 year old Yorkshire Terrier boy who came into Oldies Club care after his elderly owner passed away. He lives in a foster home in Leeds, West Yorkshire as he is too frail to be rehomed.

December 2011: This year a committee member organised a Secret Santa collection to provide gift vouchers for each of our sponsor dogs. Charlie spent his on treats (which appear to be bigger than he is!). Thank you to everyone who sponsors him :)

Here’s Charlie posing in this year’s Christmas hat …

Update 2011:

Charlie had to visit the vet just before Christmas as he was drinking lots of water and finding it hard to settle. The vet took him off the water pills he was on. His fosterer tells us that he does have some off days but other days he acts like a two year old :-)

Charlie has visits from a Yorkie called Bobby and the two of them, along with Shep, enjoy chasing each other around.

His fosterer managed to get him to pose for a Christmas photo – it was a bit of an effort as he wasn’t keen to sit still on his own, so needed a little help! :)

When Charlie arrived he came in with another Yorkie who had lived with him in his previous home. Sadly, it soon became obvious that poor Charlie had been bullied by the other dog for years, and they had to be separated. Charlie was a very sad and poorly dog to begin with and was skin and bone – the other dog had been eating most of the food. Charlie had hardly any hair – none on his tail – and was very lethargic, sleeping most of the time. He also had terrible teeth which were so badly corroded they had infected his whole mouth.

We are pleased to say that, thanks to veterinary treatment and the fabulous work of his foster carer, Charlie is now in much better shape. He has put on weight, his fur is growing back and he’s a much happier boy. He still has days when he sleeps a lot, but he’s quite playful sometimes and loves playing with his squeeky ball. He’s even been on holiday with his fosterers and really enjoyed himself.

Recently, Charlie has begun having fits and one of these started after he had walked a little further than he was used to. The vet has carried out tests and found nothing conclusive, but advised his foster carer to keep a close eye on him.

Oldies Club feel that Charlie is too frail to withstand another change of home now and because of his fits he’s going to stay in Oldies Club care as a Sponsor Dog. He will be loved and spoiled for the rest of his days and if you would like to help us care for him, please consider taking part in our sponsor scheme.
