15/08/18 Unfortunately we were unable to manage Zoe’s pain further and the vets could not prescribe anything stronger so Zoe has been pts in the comfort of her foster home. Sleep tight lovely girl x
Zoe is a lovely GSD X who came into Oldies Club care in March 2018 after completing her 7 day stay at a Local Authority pound.
Zoe arrived with a massive mammary tumour hanging from her abdomen so this was our top priority in getting our new girl comfortable. She underwent a chest x-ray to check the tumour hadnt spread which thankfully came up clear. Zoe had her operation to remove the lump & a skin tag. The lump was sent off to histology. She also had a dental and 3 teeth removed as they were in quite poor condition and one crumbled as it was being removed. She came back to her foster home from the vets full of beans and eating well.
Unfortunately the lump analysis came back showing it to be a high grade mammary carcinoma which was highly likely to have spread to poor Zoe’s lymph nodes. Zoe was referred to the specialist in Winchester for further treatment. They believed the lump had metastasized possibly into the bone and another lump had appeared near the original site of her operation. Sadly the vets believe that Zoe only has a few months left.
Due to her poor prognosis, Oldies Club made the decision to place Zoe in our sponsor dog scheme, which means she will remain at her lovely foster home on a permanent basis receiving pallative care, with the charity paying her vet bills for the rest of her life.
Zoe is a very affectionate dog who loves nothing better than a chin scratch or a tummy rub. She loves company and will plant herself next to whoever is in the house and whinge until they scratch her.
She loves treats and will happily give first one paw and then the other. She enjoys a sunbath in the garden and can often be found stretched out on the patio snoring loudly.
She is an extremely clever dog and will open the front door and back door if she wants to come in or out. She has also worked out how to get into the kitchen bin and does a very good guilty face, only to repeat the misdemeanour regularly.
Her fosterers hope she will be with them for a good while yet and at least they know she is being loved to bits and will be so happy in her last few months.
If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Zoe, or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
