29/7/18 – Kenneth has found a home.
Kenneth is a 10 year old Chinese Crested x Poodle boy, in foster care in South Birmingham through Wonky Pets Rescue.
They say, “Kenneth came to us from the pound where he was taken in as a stray, he was found to have a heart murmur and a retained testicle so we were asked if we could help him. He has had a full heart scan with us which shows he has an enlarged valve in his heart giving him a grade 3 heart murmur but this doesn’t require medication at the moment and is something for new owners to monitor with their vets long term.
“Kenneth is a funny, tiny little chap, he has clearly not had the best time at some point in his life because if you reach towards him, down to him or over him he will snap and try to bite, call him over to you so he can come to you and be on your lap and he is a sweetheart letting you do anything to him! so he has a real fear of hands coming directly to him which any new owners will need to have direct experience of handling otherwise, it jut isn’t going to work with him.
“Kenneth is a real little lap dog, he would sit with someone all day if he could BUT he will also be protective of his person that he has bonded with so if someone else approaches or if another dog tried to come over he will react with his teeth so this is clearly a behaviour that will need addressing longer term in his new home, working with him to overcome his guarding of his “person”.
“So, Kenneth may be tiny and cute BUT he is looking for a home probably as the only dog (unless you have lots of experience working with little dogs with issues like his with other dogs in the home) and with someone who has knowledge and experience of being able to continue to work with him to build his confidence and not allow him in a position when he will guard. It will take time and patience and a certain amount of know how, the last thing we want is for someone to take on this little guy because he looks cute and then him be returned because he has been allowed to bite so please consider carefully before applying.
“Kenneth could probably live with cats but we cannot consider homes with children or regularly visiting children under the age of 14 years. He is neutered (including removal of a retained testicle), vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated. He has also had a dental with several extractions and will be rehomed with 5 weeks free pet insurance.”
