Little Patch, a sad old Jack Russell Terrier, came into Oldies Club care 3 weeks ago after spending 3 months in kennels, arriving there via Social Services because his owner couldn’t look after him. Patch was in a poor state and had some medical attention while in kennels as he had badly infected teeth and was struggling with arthritis.
The kennels contacted Oldies Club, after Patch was signed over by Social Services, to see if we could take him into our rescue. Luckily we were able to help, and Patch went to an Oldies Club foster home in Warwickshire where he received further medical attention and lots of TLC from his lovely foster carer. Sadly, Patch was in a poor way – very wobbly, virtually blind and with a very large fatty lump on his side.
At first, Patch was aloof and seemed quite disorientated and was pacing during the daytime. But after a few days he decided that he would make the most of the opportunity he had been given and he sat on his foster carer’s lap to have his head and ears tickled, bless him. He also enjoyed looking out of the window, viewing what was going on in the world, and he was starting to put on weight and his coat condition was improving.
It looked as though life was well and truly on the up for little Patch, and his foster carer was really enjoying having him around. But then, tragically, Patch became very poorly and the vet’s opinion was that he no longer had any quality of life. We are so sad to report that little Patch was put to sleep kindly and is now at rest.
It is a very sad outcome for Patch, but at least he had a very comfortable last three weeks with wonderful care and lots of kindness. Our very grateful thanks go out to his foster carer. We are sure that Patch is saying thank you too.
