10/02/20 – Little Jack has gone off to wrangle blankets in his new home!
———————
Jack is a very sweet 15-year-old Jack Russell Terrier Cross who is in an Oldies Club foster home in Coventry, West Midlands, while he waits for someone to offer him a permanent home.
Overview of Jack: Little Jack came into rescue because his owner was being moved to a new home and could only take two of his three dogs with him. The other two dogs were a more bonded pair and so little Jack had to be rehomed. Jack took about a week to settle at his foster home and he is doing well there. He loves to spend time arranging his blanket so that it’s just the way he likes it!
Can be left: Jack is fine to be left on his own for a few hours and he might be OK to live with a part-time worker, but he would really like a home with someone around a lot of the time as he does love to be your little companion.
Generally OK with other dogs: Jack has previously lived with two other dogs (staffies). His foster carer reports that he is generally good with other dogs at the park but he does sometimes warn off larger dogs when he is on the lead and feels vulnerable, for example when he met a big dog at the vets.
Needs a cat-free home: Jack is at one with his terrier roots and he does like to chase cats.
Fine with older children: Jack would be fine to live with kind, considerate children aged 12 plus.
Enjoys walks: Jack goes for walks on an extension lead and he is a good boy. He doesn’t have good recall as he is virtually deaf. He is currently having two 25-minute walks each day, or one 40-minute walk.
Good in the car: Yes, he is a good little traveller.
Jack’s favourite pastimes: Blanket arranging (expert); Walking around the house and garden (proficient); Eating (past master); Short lap cuddles (intermediate); Going out for walks or out in the car to open spaces (advanced); Being fussed (expert)!
Jack’s dislikes: Heavy rain; cats; some other dogs; very loud noises that startle him; and stairs, as he has arthritic joints.
Jack’s ideal home: A home where he will have company most of the time. A bungalow would be perfect, or a house with a stair gate to keep him on one level. He would like an enclosed garden to potter in.
Health notes: Jack is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and has been wormed and flea treated. He has just had a dental so has lovely clean teeth; he had 7 teeth removed. He has arthritic joints and a past hip injury for which he has been prescribed Metacam. He is 80-90% deaf, blind in his right eye and has 60% sight in his left eye.
More from Jack’s foster carer: “Jack is a well-behaved, content and loving little dog. He sleeps deeply at night for 8-10 hours and he likes to keep busy during his waking hours, pottering around the house and garden. His blanket is Jack’s whole world! He has been a completely silent dog in our care. He has no interest in toys or balls but he likes to be with you and follow you everywhere.”

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
