18/10 Honey has sadly passed away after a short illness. Sleep tight lovely girl x
Honey is a lovely 10 year old Crossbreed girl who arrived in Oldies Club care in December 2019 as her owner was unable to secure accommodation where pets were allowed.
When Honey came into Oldies Club care we were aware that she was on medication for a heart murmur. It is a grade 6/6 and rather loud as her heart is pumping for all it’s worth to try to get blood round. On examination the vets wished to change her medication to help her with this but it was too dicey to just swap without a scan first so Honey was booked in for an echo ultrasound. Sadly the scan showed some worrying news for her heart but they were able to prescribe her a new medication to help.
Due to her health concerns and unknown time left, Oldies Club made the decision to place Honey in our sponsor dog scheme, which means she will remain at her lovely foster home on a permanent basis, with the charity paying her vet bills for the rest of her life.
Honey settled in well with her foster family and quickly became part of the furniture. She gets on very well with the resident JRT but is taking a little longer to learn the ropes with the cats. She is starting to get to know they’re the bosses from up high.
Honey loves her daily walks, whether they be around the local lake or woodlands and has travelled well to places further afield. After she can often be found having an afternoon nap in her cosy bed or curled up on one of her fosterer’s laps under a blanket.
Honey has a bright personality and is often making her fosterers giggle with her funny little ways. She likes to give them a little groom and hair nibble in the mornings and when they are having a snuggle on the sofa.
Honey is a little Diva and not afraid to let her fosterers know when she wants something. She enjoys the odd treat but mostly looks forward to her dinner in the evening. Honey is no stranger to knowing how to play on the heart strings when she wants something, with her soppy eyes and very cute big ears. Many a night so far she has kept her fosterers awake with her snoring, but they don’t mind because she is hard to not fall in love with.
Despite her ongoing heart murmur and mild allergies which affect her paws, she seems to be showing some improvement after a visit to the vets and a change of medication. Her life may be limited by her heart murmur but so far she is living life to the full. She will need ongoing visits to see the vet and the medication she is on is for life. Her heart may not be the healthiest, but she sure behaves like it belongs to a puppy and her soul is gold!
If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Honey or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
