01/07/2020 – We are sad to let you know that Lena has passed away. She was rushed to the emergency vets with breathing difficulties and put on oxygen. She stabilised and was allowed home but sadly deteriorated and passed away.
Lena is a cute 13 year old Pekingese X girl who arrived in Oldies Club care in October 2018 as her owner was moving to accommodation where pets were not allowed.
When Lena first arrived she seemed a little clingy spending most of her time moving from one lap to another in search of cuddles but due to the upheaval in her life it wasnt overly suprising. Her fosterers have been working on that with various ideas and have been reading up on separation anxiety in dogs. Although she has been in their care for a year now she still doesnt like to be left and doesnt like it if both fosterers are out of sight.
Lena started having breathing issues which caused her to panic. Her breathing is difficult sometimes because of her little squashed nose with being part Pekingese. She comes to her fosterer to have her throat massaged regularly. When taken to the vet it was found she had a heart murmur which was likely to also contribute to her breathing problems and was put on medication to help with this. Over time she has also developed a cough.
Due to her health concerns and severe separation anxiety, Oldies Club made the decision to place Lena in our sponsor dog scheme, which means she will remain at her lovely foster home on a permanent basis, with the charity paying her vet bills for the rest of her life.
Lena loves exploring the garden and keen for a walk. Lena doesn’t walk but runs everywhere. She cannot be let off the lead but her fosterers have a very long lead so she is able to explore at her leisure. Everyone who meets her, falls in love with her and thinks she is a puppy.
Lena has some very amusing traits. She thinks the dogs on the tv adverts are hers to chase. Her fosterers can be sitting watching tv with Lena between them , they think she is asleep and suddenly an advert comes on and Lena jumps up and barks at the tv. It’s quite amusing. Fortunately they have a tall solid tv unit.
If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Lena or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
