27/04/2020 – Sadly Poppy has passed away. Sleep tight little one
Poppy is a sweet 11 year old Bichon Frise girl who arrived in Oldies Club care in December 2019 as her owner became unwell and as a result had to move into a care home.
When Poppy first arrived it was clear she had limited vision and little hearing. Her first vet visit confirmed this but also that she had a heart murmur and was having breathing difficulties due to her being overweight. Poppy was put on a strict feeding regime and as she was also suffering with tummy problems she was given probind to help. This hasnt stopped her being quite a perky little girl.
Followup vet visits included a scan which sadly revealed that she has a mass on her gall bladder and a couple on her liver. Thankfully at this stage Poppy isnt showing any overt clinical signs relating to the masses and instead of invasive treatment we have opted for liver support supplements and re-testing of the liver values.
Due to her health concerns and unknown time left, Oldies Club made the decision to place Poppy in our sponsor dog scheme, which means she will remain at her lovely foster home on a permanent basis, with the charity paying her vet bills for the rest of her life.
Poppy has good days and bad days. On good days she is lively and plays with her toys (the squeakier the better) and sometimes even likes to race down the stairs. On bad days she tends to stay in her bed.
If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Poppy or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
