18/10 – Sadly Scamp has a seizure during the night and has since passed away :( Sleep tight little man xx
Scamp is a 13 year old Chihuahua X who came into Oldies Club care in March 2020 after his owner was moving to a property where they could only take one dog with them.
Scamp arrived a timid little lad, appearing from his travelling cage, shaking from head to toe. He had a huge wee, went indoors and sat on the cushion on the sofa that came with him and didnt move for ages.
Over time he has formed a lovely trusting bond with his fosterer and is very happy in their care. He now enjoys staying by their side and sleeping on the bed, mostly under the covers.
Vet visits during lockdown unfortunately have been quite hard on Scamp as his fosterer couldnt go in with him. He would scream when having nails cut and shake all over. He would try to escape when any treatment would take place. Scamp unfortunately collapsed and was rushed to the vets where he had an overnight stay at veterinary hospital. He was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and heart murmur. Scamp is now on medication which has mostly given him a balanced life, although this will be under review to see how things are going.
Due to his timid nature, health concerns and unknown time left, Oldies Club made the decision to place Scamp in our sponsor dog scheme, which means he will remain at his lovely foster home on a permanent basis, with the charity paying his vet bills for the rest of his life.
Scamp is such a sweet gentle little lad but is terrified of lots of things – strangers at the door, delivery drivers, even when his name tag hits his food or water bowl (his fosterer has placed a key fob cover over his tag which makes a difference)
Scamp would not go for walkies, even though they spent time on grass outside front of house so he got used to surroundings and smells. His fosterer started to carry him on the outward journey and he would walk home but he really doesn’t find it enjoyable. He shakes on the way out with his head down and almost runs to get home. Scamp is far more happy just snuggling on sofa or lazing in garden. He loves to sunbathe or finds a shady spot when too hot. He also enjoys watching his fosterer gardening and will come to investigate and have a good sniff.
Scamp can have a mad moment scooting around on the grass, especially if its teatime! He loves his food and his little face appears early in the morning very excited for breakfast. He loves tummy tickles and gives his fosterer face rubs in return.
His fosterer says Scamp is a darling little boy who captured her heart very quickly. Hopefully he will remain in good health in our care for a long as he can possibly stay.
