05/04/21 Sadly this morning Tia went downhill. She could not stand up and her breathing was laboured. Her fosterers rushed her to the vets but sadly there was nothing that could be done and Tia drifted off for her final sleep. Run free our Little Black Hippo xx
Tia is a cute 14/15 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, who came into Oldies Club care early in November 2019 due to her owners being unable to care for her fully due to ill health.
When Tia first arrived she had a few health conditions that needed to be sorted. Tia had an undiagnosed skin problem that made her feel itchy and so is on apoquel tablets. These tablets along with a couple of courses of antibiotics helped to improve her coat and it started to become shiny. Her ears were causing her bother and they needed to be flushed several times to clear up an infection. She also has a lump on her left back knee that she licks if not discouraged from doing so, this could possibly be due to arthritis in her knee.
Tia started to wee indoors and the fosterer wasn’t sure if it was due to infection, old age or when she gets excited. To be sure it wasnt infection related a urine sample was taken to the vets but proved inconclusive. One night Tia had an episode. The fosterers described it a bit like an epileptic fit where she would zone out similar to experiences they had, had with their previous Staffie. When she came round after a minute or so she was fine.
Due to her health concerns, Oldies Club made the decision to place Tia in our sponsor dog scheme, which means she will remain at her lovely foster home on a permanent basis, with the charity paying her vet bills for the rest of her life.
Tias has settled in very well with her fosterers and jumps about wagging her tail when the family arrive home.
Tia is good with other dogs and enjoys going out on her walks. She is good on her lead and enjoys going for a medium length walk. She goes for three to four 15 minute walks per day plus has access to the garden when needed. Tia loves rolling in the grass and sunbathing but like any good Staffie does not like going out in the rain.
Tia is an amazing little lady. She loves to have a good scratch from those who love her. She will beg for food by making little noises and gently barks sometimes. Tia is very placid and will pull sofa cushions into a “nest” on the sofa!! She just loves to be pampered and made comfortable.
If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Tia, or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
