20/11/2021 – Amber became very poorly and she has sadly had to be put to sleep. We are so upset for Amber and her lovely foster family.

Amber is a truly beautiful girl, aged about 12, and is a Crossbreed with possibly some German Shepherd in her mixture. She came into the Oldies Club rescue after being picked up as a stray. Amber was, very sadly, found in a terrible state and has taken plenty of time to recuperate in her wonderful foster home in Birmingham. She is now ready for someone to offer her a lovely forever home.

The photos below, taken when she was first rescued, show the level of neglect poor Amber had endured.

Flourished in foster care: Amber has had wonderful care in her foster home and has gradually blossomed into a gorgeous old girl. She just took a few days to settle in to her foster home.

Can be left a little: Amber is fine to be left on her own for a few hours when necessary but she wouldn’t be happy to live with full-time workers. Part-time hours might be OK for her though.

Good with other dogs: Amber is brilliant with other dogs and there’s no aggression in her at all. She would prefer a calm and quiet dog if she was to share her home with a dog.

Unknown with cats: We are looking for a cat-free home as we don’t know how Amber would be with cats.

Children aged 12+: Amber would be able to live with kind children aged over 12.

Enjoys moderate walks: Lovely Amber is excellent on a lead and walks very well. She’s quite deaf so isn’t let off lead – if she can’t see your gestures, you aren’t able to recall her. She will happily walk for 2 miles twice a day, and probably a little more.

Good in the car: Amber loves going in the car and is very well behaved.

Amber’s favourite pastimes: She likes to play with a tennis ball and to roll over soft toys. She loves the treat balls that she pushes around until a treat drops out. Amber also likes to play chase. She loves to snuggle up next to you to sleep and will go upstairs to bed when you go out – she does enjoy her naps.

Amber’s ideal home: She’d be happiest in a home where there is someone there a lot of the time, with people who are quite fit as she’s pretty lively and enjoying making the most of having happy times.

Health notes: Amber is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and has been wormed and flea treated. She has a flea allergy which is treated with antihistamines and this is long term. She has had surgery to remove several tumours. It is not known if they were benign or not and they may possibly recur. She is very hard of hearing and although she is aware of a few sounds, she can’t hear you talking to her or calling her. She has several teeth missing. She is having Yumove tablets for her joints as she’s getting on a bit and it helps keep her flexible.

More from Amber’s foster carer:Beautiful Amber is affectionate, lively and playful. I think she is crossed with a mountain goat as she does like to climb up on things. She responds very well to gesture commands and has a great sense of fun. She can be quite vocal at times but never with any sign of aggression. She is a very gentle girl.

If you would like to offer Amber a permanent home, please read our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club rehoming co-ordinator as follows:

Email: rehome@oldies.org.uk
Telephone: 0844 586 8656

Amber can be rehomed anywhere on the UK mainland – the closer to her foster home the better though, subject to a satisfactory home visit. Note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to collect her.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
