11/02/21 – Sadly Scamp despite showing terrier tenacity went downhill quite quickly and was refusing all food . He was taken to the vets and they found he was losing weight rapidly and it was his time so he was put to sleep being cuddled by his fosterer. Sleep tight lovely boy x
Scamp is a 16 year old Fox Terrier X who came into Oldies Club care in October 2020 as his owner had sadly passed away.
When Scamp first arrived he was very shy and was quite nervous. He initially didnt like being touched. He would become snappy if his fosterer attempted to dry him with a towel after a wet walk. He took time to come out of his shell and really settle.
From his arrival Scamp has tummy issues and was suffering with several bouts of diarrhoea. Visits to the vets, medication and a change in the food he had initially come in with seemed to help improve the situation. It seemed like Scamp has a very delicate stomach. Scamp needed a dental and was taken in for pre-op bloods as he is an older boy. Unfortunately these tests revealed he has both kidney and liver issues. A further scan revealed that poor Scamp has a large tumour on his liver.
Due to Scamp’s ill health and unknown time left Oldies Club made the decision to place him in our sponsor dog scheme, which means he will remain at his lovely foster home on a permanent basis, with the charity paying his vet bills for the rest of his life.
Scamp loves cuddles, lots of warm blankets and is a cheeky boy for stealing treats if his fosterers aren’t watching! When it comes to his own food Scamp is a very fussy dog. His favourite meals are mince & sweet potato, and chicken & vegetables. He also loves scrambled egg, cornflakes and apple. He is a fiend for human food though and will be your best friend if you have anything edible on you.
Scamp loves his walks, unless its raining or too cold! His daily routine consists of waking up, eating his breakfast, sleeping, going for a walk, sleeping some more, having his dinner and sleeping some more.
Scamp has multiple beds round the house depending on where his fosterers are. He likes to stay close. His absolute favourite spot though is on the sofa, surrounded by blankets and cuddled up by his fosterers side. He is now very relaxed in his foster home. Scamp enjoyed his first Christmas with with his fosterers, however he decided to open everyone’s presents for them before the big day!
Although Scamp is a poorly little man, he doesn’t let that stop him. He is still loving life, making the most of his days and seeing the world one tiny step at a time. His foster family have fallen well and truly in love with him in such a short period of time, he is the most wonderful dog.
If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Scamp, or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
