17/4/21 – Very sadly, sponsor dog Toby has passed away. He had unfortunately stopped responding to his medication and on discussion with his vet it was agreed the kindest thing was to let him go. Sleep tight little man.
When he first arrived he was quickly whisked away for a pampering by a local groomer to help him feel better. He arrived with a number of long standing medical conditions such as a heart murmur, dry eye and mobility issues, he is very wobbly. A vet check revealed he also had an ear infection which was sorted out with tablets and now his fosterers make sure his ears are kept nice and clean. He needs eye gel daily to keep his eyes moist. Whilst in our care it has been coming clear that Toby appears to be in early stages of dementia which sometimes effects his sleeping (Sundown Syndrome). He now has a SAD lamp to help with this.
Due to his age, which is very old for his breed, and his multiple health issues Oldies Club made the decision to place Toby in our sponsor dog scheme, which means he will remain at his lovely foster home on a permanent basis, with the charity paying his vet bills for the rest of his life.
Aside from his health issues Toby is a funny, wilful little lad, that has really made a bond with his fosterers and seems very happy in his foster home. Having come from a home with no beds he now has 3 and enjoys all of them at different times of the day. He gets on well with the resident Labradoodle.
Toby’s fosterers have introduced him to gentle walks where he can totter about. They have recently acquired a pram, so now he can come out with them wherever they go. Toby has taken to it well, he can have a little walk and as soon as he is tired they pop him in his pram and off they go.
