18/11/2023: Sadly, Betty passed away. Run free lovely girl.
Sweet girl Betty is a 10-year-old petite Staffy in the care of Rescue Remedies near Gatwick on the Surrey/West Sussex border. She wants a quiet home with no other pets or children. She’s good as gold and only need gentle walks and a garden in which to sunbathe.
Betty recently spent some time in respite foster care. Her carer wrote a handy check list…
- Travels well in the car, no sickness and was quiet, looking out of window
- Met Husband and Son for the first time with friendly, waggy tail
- Very loving and affectionate, a real cuddle monster who likes to snuggle close
- No issues with food or toy guarding
- Doesn’t jump up at counters in kitchen and sits nicely while we are eating
- Clean in the house 100%
- Very gentle manners and doesn’t snatch treats
- Likes to be on sofas and near her favourite person
- Slept all night in her bed beside my bed (will need to be near you at night)
- Walks without pulling on a loose lead with gentle manner
- Doesn’t door barge and waits for you
- Was easy to wash in shower (she does know me very well)
- Didn’t bark at all and was calm and content in garden
- Took to my grown up son very quickly. She had some nerves around Hubby, but nothing we couldn’t manage with experience and awareness
- Betty can be nervous around the odd new person in the home
- Not for cats
- Doesn’t like all dogs and wears a muzzle on walks to prevent unwanted incidents, so needs to be the only dog at home
Betty is loved by all the volunteer walkers she meets. One said, “Betty is just adorable. She loves time spent with her human friends and is very affectionate and gentle with people. Betty and I usually go off exploring on our own. Yesterday her favourite thing was rolling in the grass. As soon as she spied some grass, she dropped on her back and rolled and rolled and rolled…
“Don’t let her muzzle put you off. She is very sweet, beautiful and dainty and only needs her muzzle on as a precaution to dogs running right up to her and getting in her face, which she hates. She walks very well with other dogs and passes dogs nice and calmly, given a bit of space for her to feel safe.”
Another walker said, “I had an amazing walk with Betty this morning. Sometimes Betty is reluctant to walk and chooses a short route. Today she chose a long route, taking her time to sniff and roll in the long grass and a sit down for cuddles. First port of call for Betty was the stream. She had a lovely paddle and a drink then onward, again choosing a long route. Another paddle in the next place where we can get to the stream and Betty was a happy girl. I have not seen her this happy and confident out on a walk for a while and it made my heart sing.”
So if you like gentle walks and would prefer a dog who doesn’t pull on the lead, Betty might be the girl for you! Not to mention her impeccable manners and quietness in the home. She really is an easy dog to live with and to love. As well as plenty of fuss, she would appreciate a paddling pool!
