11/2/22 – Macaroon has gone to his new home!

Macaroon is a 10-year-old Miniature Dachshund boy who came into the Oldies Club rescue following his owners’ divorce. He is in a foster home in Ringwood, Hampshire.

Quickly settled in: Macaroon is a confident boy who loves to be the centre of attention. In foster he made himself at home straight away.

Can be left for a short time: The longest Macaroon has been left alone is 2 hours. He initially barks when left, but when his foster family return home he has been sleeping in his bed. He tends to bark a bit when his fosterer leaves the house (when the rest of the family are at home) but he quickly settles down.

Very good with dogs: Macaroon is good with dogs and very confident. He is not fazed by bigger dogs and wants to meet them. He might be able to live with a compatible dog as he has lived with another dog previously.

Unknown with cats: We are looking for a cat-free home for Macaroon as we don’t know how he is with them, and we’re sure he won’t be short of home offers!

Fine with older children: On walks, Macaroon is happy to be petted by children, and he came from a home that had children. He wouldn’t take to being tormented though, so children in his new home would need to be kind, considerate and aged 12+.

Enjoys walks in fine weather: Macaroon barks to go out on a walk in the morning, and is happy with a short 30-minute stroll. He is fine off lead and doesn’t stray too far. He dawdles at every scent though, so it does take ages to get anywhere. He won’t go out in the rain.

Good in the car: Macaroon settles down to sleep in the car.

Macaroon’s favourite pastimes: Sleeping on laps and eating.

Macaroon’s ideal home: A home where people are around a lot as he loves company and attention. He would also be happy in a home where there is one person, as he attaches himself to one person. He needs a home with a nice, secure garden that is easily accessible by a short-legged dog. You will need to be an experienced dog owner as Macaroon is a confident chap.

Health notes: Macaroon is neutered, vaccinated, wormed and flea treated. He has several fatty lumps, which aren’t a concern. He has had investigations on his liver and gallbladder, which were inconclusive, but no further investigations were recommended. He is having Destolit tablets to prevent gallstones. Otherwise he seems very healthy.

More from Macaroon’s foster carer:Loving, hungry, happy and fiesty, Macaroon is a healthy little chap. It is impossible to sit down without him wanting to climb on your lap and he follows you around the house. He is fed twice a day usually around 7.30am and 3.30pm and has a handful of dried food mixed with a pouch of wet. He loves his food and will eat anything. He barks at people who walk past our house and does growl occasionally. He also barks when the doorbell is rung. He does like being the centre of attention. He has made one person the main focus of his attention and will try to be quite possessive over that person. He is house trained and quickly learnt to use the dog flap. We have had one accident with no known reason why.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
