Sadly Rachel became ill and went downhill quickly so we had to let her go. Sleep easy little one x
Rachel is a 13 year Staffy lady who came into Oldies Club care in August 2021 due to her owners ill health. She is blind and hard of hearing. Rachel arrived with quite a few suspicious lumps and bumps that needed investigating.
Rachel’s test results showed some of the lumps showed the early stages of cancer and so on advice from the vet Rachel had a double mammary strip. She recovered well after the first strip, but unfortunately picked up an infection after the second which meant lots of trips to the vets and made for a very stressful Christmas 2021 for both Rachel and her fosterer. Rachel is a battler and she battled on through to recover fully from her two operations.
Due to the ongoing monitoring due to her cancer risk Oldies Club made the decision to place Rachel in our sponsor dog scheme, which means she will remain at her lovely foster home on a permanent basis, with the charity paying her vet bills for the rest of her life. The good thing is that after going through so much together, Rachel and her fosterer have struck up such a bond there was no way her fosterer could let her go, or vice versa.
Now Rachel is doing amazingly! She is back on top form being the sassy ol ‘girl she was meant to be strong and wilful and oh so funny.
Rachel loves her food (maybe a tad too much!) but she seems very proud of her curves when she’s swishing down the road with that unmissable staffy wiggle, she would give Beyonce a run for her money with that booty shaking. She is currently on a post-spay low calorie diet but she doesn’t need to know that!
Mornings are her favourite time, you’d think she was a teenager the energy she wakes with, hopping and skipping on her back legs and demanding (yes she’s found her voice) to be taken for a walk, she ushers her fosterer to the door whilst shouting at her to stop faffing. She has 3 short walks a day, length of which is always dictated by Rachel, she’d definitely a lady who knows when she’s had enough.
Other than that Rachel likes to snooze, a lot, and preferably in the sun, she recently took her first trip away with her foster to the seaside where she loved the sandy beaches, doing many a staffy back roll to show her appreciation, but not so much the sea. Like a typical staffy she doesn’t like being wet, or washed or cleaned in any way shape or form. Woe betide anyone who tries to make her smell nice, this lady much prefers her odour au natural!
Rachel has made a few doggy friends on the street, but there are also a couple of young ‘uns who haven’t learnt they’re doggy manners yet that she’s not so fond of and can give them a bit of a telling off if they’re being daft. Other than that she’s your usual affable staffy and is friendly with all the neighbours and happily stops for a fuss.
Rachels foster family are besotted with her and are happy for her to take her rightful place as matriarch of the family.
If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Rachel, or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
