Cute Stanley is a smooth-coated Terrier, possibly with some Chihuahua and Jack Russell in his heritage. He is a typical lockdown dog and was adopted from abroad at the start of the Pandemic. His family though a more senior dog would be already trained and, therefore, a perfect fit for their urban lifestyle. Unfortunately, as life got busier and Stanley became more stressed and unhappy, they turned to Chilterns Dog Rescue Society in Tring, Hertfordshire, for help to find him a quieter, more stable environment with someone who understands the terrier temperament.
Stanley is thought to be about 7 years old and he has made huge improvements since coming into rescue in August. He is a much happier and more confident dog, but he still gets worried in unfamiliar situations and with unfamiliar people. Stanley is a sensitive, intelligent and affectionate dog who is keen to please. Naturally upbeat like most terriers, he can also be quite anxious if unsure what to do.
Stanley walks well on-lead and enjoys going out for long walks with other dogs from the Rescue Centre. He is not yet comfortable about meeting unfamiliar dogs, particularly if they are off-lead and rushing around which he finds very scary and is inclined to make his behaviour quite defensive. That said, with support from rescue staff, his confidence and behaviour are improving day on day and, in the right hands, will continue to do so.
While there is further work to be done, Stanley is also becoming more stressed by being in a busy kennel environment for so long. The right solution just could be that now is the time to look for a new home for him – if the right person is out there.
Stanley is hoping to find a quiet, adult-only home with someone around most of the day. He would only be suited to a home without children. He would probably be best suited to a home without other pets, although a home with a compatible canine friend would certainly be considered very carefully. Stanley has had a little experience of car travel but could soon get used to this being a more regular occurrence.
Stanley is such an attractive, engaging dog, he deserves a second chance. After a lifetime of uncertainty and confusion, he deserves to meet that very special person who can offer him a forever home. Stanley may be small, weighing in at just over 7kg, but he is much more than just a companion dog. He needs regular physical and mental stimulation and a new owner with the experience and patience to work on his behaviour in situations he may continue to find stressful.
Stanley is inoculated, microchipped and neutered and has no known health issues.
