09/03/2024: Albert has been adopted! Hooray!

Adorable Albert is an 11-year-old Staffy in the care of Senior Staffy Club in Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire. He wants to be an only pet in an adult-only home and he needs a Mum! He can be wary of some men and trusts ladies more easily. A kind, gentle Dad about the place (in addition) should be fine, as long as he can bond most strongly with a woman.

Albert is a good boy on walks. He doesn’t pull on the lead and he calmly walks past most other dogs. His human’s attention is what Albert cares about. He is a sensitive soul and at times shy of strangers. He needs to be able to sidle up to people in his own time. Once accepted into his friendship circle, Albert will require lots of fuss and cuddles!

His main carer says, “Albert really is all about the fuss and having attention once he gets to know you. One way he shows his affection is by nibbling your chin! He generally ignores other dogs but we do keep a good distance away. He’s really foody so he’s pretty easy to keep focussed on us and, unless they’re very close or reactive to him, he doesn’t turn his nose up at any treats he’s offered. He loves a good roll in the grass too.”

Albert’s sensitive nature means he’s happiest in quiet environments. He doesn’t like being left on his own and time alone will need to be built up gradually. He needs owners who can empathise with his worries and help him either avoid them or stay calm if they can’t be avoided, such as having things done to him at the vets.

Once, at the vets, he was being restrained to have a vaccination and he panicked and bit someone. It was very unfortunate all round, since he’s now officially classed as having a history of such things, when we can all understand that he felt terrified and that he had to defend himself. The rescue will be happy to talk through what happened.

Needless to say, he now wears a muzzle if anything is being done to him at the vets. He actually loves vets themselves and doesn’t mind being poked about a bit. It’s being restrained while having things done to him in that setting which triggers his panic mode.

Albert has a touch of arthritis in his back legs, but is otherwise in good health. He is currently taking Gabapentin to help with some of his anxieties whilst at kennels, and this would need to be continued whilst he settled into his new home.

He’s such a loving boy and a joy to take out, he’ll be someone’s perfect, loyal and fun best friend!
