06/03/2023 – Belle has been adopted! Hooray!

Belle is a lovely 12-year-old Jack Russell Terrier who came into the Oldies Club rescue from a dog pound. She is in a foster home in Newcastle Emlyn, Cardigan, while she waits for a permanent home.

Settled nicely: Belle quickly made herself at home in foster care, and then had the usual settling period where her lovely character gradually emerged. As you can see in the photos, she loves to get herself all snuggled up in a blanket!

Can be left: Belle seems fine about being left for up to 4 hours. She has been left in the company of the resident dog and there were no problems at all.

OK with dogs: Belle is fine with other dogs. She does want to be top dog though, so any canine companion would need to be subservient and non-reactive. She doesn’t like another dog taking away her treat, and will grumble and air snap; she doesn’t follow it up though. She would be fine as an only dog provided she had human company most of the time.

No cats: Belle definitely needs a cat-free home.

Unknown with children: We don’t know if Belle is used to being around children, and she hasn’t met any in foster care, so we are looking for an adult home for her.

Enjoys walks: Belle loves to go out for a walk and she is excellent on the lead. She is being walked on a flexi lead and her recall seems to be good based on how she pays attention to being called when she’s on the lead. Belle is happy with almost any length of walk.

Fine in the car: Belle is good in the car, but she will have a whinge if she knows where she is going.

Belle’s favourite pastimes: Playing with a ball. Wrapping herself up in a throw. Looking out of the window.

Belle’s ideal home: She’d like to live in a home where she’ll have plenty of company, walks and cuddles. She’d also like to be allowed to sleep on the bed with you please!

Health notes: Belle is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea treated. She is fit and healthy, but the vet did find a small swelling on her teats. As she had just been spayed, the vet thought the swelling could be due to hormonal changes. It was deemed nothing to worry about at the moment but will be re-checked.

More from her foster carer: “Belle is lively, happy, cuddly and well behaved. She is not destructive in any way and is a joy to have around. She hasn’t complained about anything and has behaved impeccably. Belle’s new adopters will be thrilled with her.”

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
