20/10/23 – Little Jax has gone off to his new home, where he will no doubt enjoy exploring!
—————————-
Jax is a 9-year-old Chihuahua who came into rescue due to concerns with him being around the baby in his former home. He is in an Oldies Club foster home in Mold, Flintshire, waiting for someone to offer him a permanent home.
Jax in a nutshell: Jax loves to explore new places, and he’d like to have a canine friend in his new home.
Settled gradually: Jax took about 3 weeks to properly relax into life at his foster home, but this is partly because the resident dog took a while to get used to having Jax around. At night Jax is happy to sleep in his bed in the kitchen. He’ll sleep for about 12 hours overnight. He’s never once marked in the house and when he wants to go out to the toilet he indicates this by standing by the back door.
Can be left: Jax is fine about being left for up to 4 hours, especially if he has canine companionship. However, his ideal home will be one where he won’t need to be left for too long regularly.
Wants to live with a dog: Little Jax came from a home with another dog and he loves to be around other dogs. We are therefore looking for a home where he will have a canine companion. Failing that, he might cope if his new owner was at home all day with him.
Chases cats: We are looking for a cat-free home for Jax as, although cats are bigger than him, he knows they are for chasing!
Could live with older children: Jax doesn’t want to be around young children, but sensible children aged 10+ who would not tease him should be OK.
Loves varied walks: Jax really loves his walks. He’s good on the lead and he likes to sniff and investigate everything. Twice a day is fine for him but he loves going to different places and on different routes for plenty of variety. If he decides that he doesn’t want to go a particular way, he will not go! His recall is still being tested, but in an enclosed field he came back on request, and in a friend’s garden he came back on request. Jax is currently having two 30-minute walks each day, but he can walk for up to about 45 minutes.
Good in the car: Jax is a good traveller and just needs to travel safely restrained. He jumps in by himself and doesn’t make any noise until the car stops.
Jax’s favourite pastimes: He loves walks and having a fuss. He has no interest in toys.
Jax’s dislikes: Plastic bags! And his owner reported that Jax doesn’t like fireworks. He will bark if there are loud noises.
Jax’s ideal home: He would love to live with someone who is around most of the day, and preferably who has a resident friendly dog as a companion. He also wants an owner who will take him on novel, interesting walks.
Health notes: Jax is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea-treated. He has no current health issues and isn’t taking any medication.
More from Jax’s foster carer: “Jax is full of character. He’s inquisitive, confident and determined. My own dog was unfriendly towards Jax when he arrived, which delayed his settling in. A friendly dog he can play with would be great for him. He enjoys a fuss, and once he knows you he loves to sit on your lap and be stroked.”

He can be rehomed anywhere on the UK mainland – the closer to his foster home the better – subject to a satisfactory home visit. Note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to collect him.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
