23/11/2023 Lovely Lucy and Jess are packing their bags to go to their new home together in Wiltshire.

Sadly, Lucy and Jess were taken to the dog pound as strays and remained unclaimed. Happily now, they have found sanctuary with Chilterns Dog Rescue Society, near Tring, Hertfordshire. It is assumed they have always lived with each other but, while a new home for them together would be amazing, Lucy and Jess would be capable of being apart and different homes could be an option.

Lucy!

Lucy is an 11 year old Springer Spaniel (dob: 3.4.2012). Jess is also a Springer Spaniel and is 9 years old (dob: 24.9.2014). Unusually, a small amount of paperwork arrived with them suggesting they are mother and daughter and that their owner had passed away.

Jess!

Lucy is a very sweet, gentle dog. She is surprisingly active for her years. Jess is also very affectionate but more lively and excitable. Both dogs were quite overweight on arrival and used to pull quite hard when exercised on lead; they may just have had a garden to run around in previously. Short dog training sessions now happen most days and both are really enjoying their walks of around 30 minutes twice daily, and are starting to get much fitter.

Lucy again!

Lucy and Jess have been getting on with people and other dogs. There is no known history of them being around children, but their relaxed temperaments suggest older children would be welcome. Another dog in the home would not be out of the question, but cats could be a bit of a temptation and might end up getting chased.

Jess again!!

If, as is suspected, Lucy and Jess have been companions to someone elderly or infirm, it seems likely they are used to having someone around for much of the day. They could cope if left for shopping trips, etc., but would not be suited to homes where they would be on their own for long hours, even if rehomed together. Both have been tolerant of travelling short distances to and from the vets and could probably settle for longer journeys, but this has not been tested.

Lucy and Jess are both in good health for their years. They are inoculated but not thought to be spayed. Lucy has a tiny wart in the corner of her left eye which is not causing her any irritation and therefore been left. Jess has a small sore spot on the top of her left leg which was causing her some pain. As a precaution, both of Jess’s front legs have been X-rayed and, fortunately, there are no signs of arthritis or any other structural issues. She is now just completing a course of antibiotics and steroids to sort out the hot spot that had developed and this is showing steady improvement and should not prove an on-going problem.
