11/06 Sadly Mary became very ill with pancreatitis and had to be put to sleep. Run free little one xx
Mary is an elderly Jack Russell Terrier who came into Oldies Club care via a Local Authority Pound. She had been found straying and was not claimed. Although Mary’s age is unknown she is clearly a lady of an advanced age.
When Mary first arrived she was a tiny scrap only weighing 5.8kgs and very wobbly on her legs. She was missing a lot of her hair from her lower body which could have been the results of an untreated flea allergy. She has cataracts but these dont seem to cause her much issue. She also had a few nasty looking lumps on her undercarriage. Her vet appointment confirmed that she sadly has mammary tumours and the vet could feel something which may be a mass on her spleen.
Due to her advanced age and her multiple medical conditions Oldies Club made the decision to place Mary in our sponsor dog scheme, which means she will remain at her lovely foster home on a permanent basis, with the charity paying her vet bills for the rest of her life.
Mary’s overall physical condition has been slowly improving whilst in foster care. She is being treated for her skin and her fosterer bathes her with a medicated shampoo. She gets tuna and salmon oil added to her food which Mary loves. She has now put on weight and is now at 7.1kgs. Her muscle tone is much improved and she is far less wobbly on her legs. Mary enjoys exploring the back garden, climbing up and down the steps and walking along the little wall.
Like many older dogs Mary is a big fan of snoozing. She can regularly be found sleeping on the sofa and buried deep within blankets. She cant get up on the sofa herself and will attempt to climb up the legs of whoever is sitting down to get onto their lap. Mary has settled in very well and her fosterer says she is a right little character.
If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Mary, or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
