05/09/23 Sadly Saffy has passed away. Sleep tight little one.
Saffy is a 15 years old Pug x Cavalier King Charles who came into Oldies Club care early February 2023 following the sad passing of her elderly owner.
Initial vet visit revealed the poor state of Saffy’s teeth. They were rotten, wobbly and had fur entwined around their bases. Seven extractions later and Saffy was like a new lady. Also of concern were a number of mammary lumps and one of Saffy’s nipples was leaking a watery fluid. A full mammary strip was recommended and despite her age Saffy recovered from the anaesthetic really well sitting up quickly after it wore off. The operation itself was successful but unfortunately since more cancerous lumps have appeared in an inoperable area.
Due to this diagnosis Oldies Club made the decision to place her in our sponsor dog scheme which means Saffy will remain at her lovely foster home on a permanent basis, with the charity paying her vet bills for the rest of her life.
Saffy is a typical pug cross in that she’s never full up even after dinner. She eats anything and everything. Loves Rex’s sprats, chicken, roast beef… you name it, she’s there which is good if you want to reward behaviour with treats. She often does a little happy dance for food.
Saffy has adored her ‘Dad’ from the moment she first arrived. She sat happily on the sofa but when he came in she moved to sit with him. She then followed him into the kitchen with her tail wagging. Saffy is never far away from him in she can be. Whenever her ‘Dad’ comes back from work she leaps up onto the sofa to get her daily dose of hugs and kisses.
Saffy enjoys going out for walkies and attending local events. She recently attended a pooch social and had fun wandering around and interacting with other dogs and making friends.
If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Saffy, or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
