30/9/24 – Ava’s found a home!
Calm and gentle Ava is an 8-year-old Crossbreed girl in the care of Rescue Remedies at their boarding kennels near Gatwick, on the Surrey/West Sussex border. She’s fine with older children and OK with other dogs when out and about. She’s a very Good Girl!
Volunteer dog walkers have said the following lovely things about her, “Ava has a very calm demeanour and is an absolute joy to walk. She takes directions well and doesn’t mind traffic. She enjoyed skipping in the long grass and investigating different smells. For some of our walk there were other dog walkers in the woods around us, Ava was happy to ignore them. She’s not one to bark or fuss.
“We had a lovely walk and when we met an off-lead dog, she was easily distracted by a piece of sausage while the dog owners secured their dog on a lead. Ava is a lovely polite girl who is food motivated enough to be keen to please you, but well-mannered enough to wait until she has earned the treat.”
She had a stay with a foster family for a proper assessment and they said, “Ava came to stay with us for a week and she was such a lovely house guest. Firstly, she loves people, always wants a cuddle and to be around someone. She will jump on the sofa, follow you around and go wherever you go. She was good with our 2 girls of 12 & 14, sitting with them and taking treats well.
“She is house trained and will do her business as soon as she goes out, ready to get going straight after. She enjoys a walk, sniffing everything and exploring. She also like to play, she enjoys chasing a ball, will go and get it and then lose interest!
“She can be wary of other dogs, particularly off lead ones that come up with no warning so, not for dense-dog areas. She walks well, occasionally pulling if something piques her interest but is responsive to her name and will look back to make sure you are there. She can be a little scared of sudden movements she isn’t expecting, so try to avoid these where possible, and loud noises but with calm reassurance she is fine.”
Another volunteer dog walker said, “This girl is absolutely amazing. She is quite possibly the sweetest, kindest, most gentle girl you could ever wish to meet. Yes, I love her! Ava has not had the best start in life but oh my goodness how she loves. I can’t even fathom how she has the ability to open her heart and trust us when she’s been treated so appallingly.
“Just to give you a little insight into Ava’s sweet temperament, this afternoon she had a bit of a bleed from a lump removal so off to the vets we went and I promise you this girl did not stop smiling. The vet staff absolutely adore her and welcomed her with open arms. She allowed the vets to clean her and stitch her back up, whilst all the time smiling without a single cross word. Honestly, I cannot tell you how in awe I am of this darling girl.”
