13/10/24 – Helpful little Bella has gone off to her lovely new home. Have fun Bella!
——————
Bella is a 12-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who came into rescue after being found as a stray in a sorry state and serving her time in the pound. She is now in an Oldies Club foster home in East Grinstead, West Sussex, where she loves to be helpful.
Summary: Bella is a loving and happy girl who will appreciate a quiet home where she can help you go about your daily routine. She enjoys steady walks with lots of sniffing. She’ll be in her element as your only pet in an adult home where she can enjoy being your cheerful companion and help with the chores and the gardening. You must be prepared to carry on with Bella’s medical care and treatments for allergies, including twice-weekly medicated baths, to keep her happy and healthy.
Settled nicely in foster: Bella took a couple of weeks to settle in to life at her foster home.
Can be left for a couple of hours: Bella has been left on her own for up to 2 hours with no problems. However, she loves to have company, so is looking for a home where her person is around for most of the day.
Wants to be an only dog: Bella loves to have all of the attention and so although she tends to ignore other dogs, she is looking for a home where she will be your only dog.
Unknown cats: Bella ignores cats when she sees them on walks, but as she was a stray we have no history for her to know whether she has ever lived with cats. She would probably be best in a home without cats, just to be sure.
Would like an adult home: Again, we have no history for Bella so don’t know how much contact she has had with children or how happy she would be around them. She does like to sleep a lot, and enjoys peace and quiet, so we think that for Bella to be at her happiest, she needs a home without children.
Enjoys calm, sniffy walks: Bella likes to get out for a walk and to stretch her legs, but she walks quite slowly and enjoys sniffing everything. She doesn’t pull on the lead. She’s currently having two walks per day of about 30 minutes each walk, but she could do more.
Very good in the car: Bella jumps in the car on her own and sits on the seat with a seatbelt attachment. She is quiet on the journey but will have a little bark when the car stops and she arrives at her destination.
Bella’s favourite pastimes: Cuddles; eating; sleeping; walks; pottering in the garden. She likes to be wherever you are, ‘helping’!
Bella’s ideal home: She would love to live with a single person or couple who will dote on her and be happy to continue her medical care.
Sleeping arrangements: Bella sleeps in a dog bed in the lounge, but if allowed would like to be in the bedroom.
Health notes: Bella is microchipped and has had flea and worm treatment. We don’t know whether she has been spayed, but if she comes into season after adoption she will need to be spayed at the appropriate time (between seasons) and Oldies Club will cover the cost of the spay. Poor Bella arrived in our care with various health issues for which she has been receiving treatment and is now stable. Her treatments will need to be kept up by her new owners.
She has a skin condition caused by allergies for which she has Malaseb baths twice weekly and takes one Apoquel tablet twice a day. She has Optimmune eye ointment once daily. She also has a special diet, Hills Z/D, food for allergies. All of these will need to be ongoing. She has a mild heart murmur but this is nothing to worry about and no treatment is needed at the moment. Bella is prone to ear infections so the vet recommended cleaning her ears three times a week.
More about Bella from her foster carer: “Bella is sweet, gentle and happy. She’s very loving and likes people of all ages. She loves her food, and she likes to ‘help’ you as you go about your daily business. She is very good when she has her twice weekly baths and she sits quietly for the 10 minutes required for the shampoo to work. She doesn’t mind being dried off with a hairdryer, in fact she seems to quite like the attention. She likes to ‘help’ in the garden and is not frightened of the lawnmower. She will bark if she hears another dog but will stop when told to. Bella likes to cuddle up next to you on the sofa in the evenings but doesn’t try to sit on your lap or lick your face.”
If you would like to offer Bella a permanent home, please read our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club Rehoming Coordinator as follows:
Email: rehome@oldies.org.uk
Telephone: 0844 586 8656
She can be rehomed anywhere on the UK mainland – the closer to her foster home the better – subject to a satisfactory home visit. Note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to collect her.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
