13/10/24 – Gorgeous boy Bruno has gone off to his lovely new home. His foster carers will miss him!

Beautiful Bruno is a 12-year-old Labrador who came into rescue due to his owner becoming homeless. Bruno is in an Oldies Club foster home in Newcastle upon Tyne, waiting for someone to offer him a permanent home.

Summary: Bruno is surely one of the handsomest black Labs we’ve ever seen! This gorgeous boy could live with another dog, and would like a nice garden to enjoy relaxing in, but he also needs to go for three walks per day as he won’t poo in the garden. Bruno is brilliant in the car and simply loves to be out and about with his people, enjoying being involved in whatever you are doing. He also loves his teddies!

Quickly settled in foster: Bruno took just a few days to settle at his foster home. He was very shy and unsettled when he arrived, but he soon got into the routine.

Can be left for a few hours: Bruno is OK to be left for a few hours. He sometimes cries a little bit when you first leave but he then settles down to sleep. When he hears you return home he is overjoyed! Bruno might be OK to live with people who go out to work part-time, but he would need to be taken out for a proper walk before you leave him.

Could live with a dog: There is a resident female terrier in Bruno’s foster home, and Bruno has lived with other dogs in the past. Bruno’s foster carer has been working on his doggy social skills and he is coming on in leaps and bounds. He is now interacting with the resident Jack Russell and has even learnt to play with her a little. His foster carer has also been helping him get more used to meeting other dogs when he is on a lead and he is doing really well with that too. He even tolerated a 9-week-old Springer Spaniel pup crawling all over him and chewing his ears!

Bruno’s new owners will just need to keep up the good work so that he doesn’t start to forget that being around other dogs can be good fun.

Bruno does still love being around humans though, and, of course, and his teddies!

Seems OK with cats: We were told that Bruno lived with cats in the past, and he doesn’t take any notice of his foster carer’s next-door neighbour’s cat. He is also quite happy to be near and around cats in the vets and doesn’t give them a second look.

Good with children: Bruno has been fine with his foster carer’s children and grandchildren, the youngest of which is 5 years old. Bruno enjoys a bit of a stroke from them, but he’s not overly needy of attention.

Sleeping arrangements: At night, Bruno sleeps in a dog bed in his foster carer’s bedroom. He likes to be near you.

Enjoys walks: Bruno loves walks and is OK on the lead. He is quite strong if he wants to go in a certain direction though, so some strength is needed to walk him. He loves having a little run around the field; his recall is OK and he doesn’t stray too far from you. After some consistent training by his foster carer, Bruno is getting used to meeting dogs when out on the lead and his behaviour has improved immensely. He is such an intelligent boy! He’s currently having four walks a day, for 20-30 minutes each walk, but he is OK if he has to miss one or two walks, for example on a hot summer’s day. Bruno won’t poo in the garden though.

Brilliant in the car: Bruno is great in the car. His foster carers use a ramp for him to get in and out as their car is quite high. Once in he just settles down in the boot and doesn’t move or make any noise. When in his foster carer’s little 2-seater car he wears a car harness and curls up on the seat.

Bruno’s favourite pastimes: Snoozing on the patio; playing with his teddies (he carries them everywhere); tummy rubs; being groomed.

Bruno’s ideal home: A home where he will be loved, petted, groomed and walked. He is very versatile and fits in to most situations with ease.

Health notes: Bruno is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea-treated, and has no current health issues. He has just had a dental (3 teeth out) and been neutered; he has healed well and the vet is happy with him.

More from Bruno’s foster carer: Bruno is a lovely, big daft lump. He was an outdoor dog before coming into Oldies Club care, but he has taken to being an indoor dog very well, with no mess and no fuss. He just loves to be around his people and be loved.

If you would like to offer Bruno a permanent home, please read our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club Rehoming Coordinator as follows:

Email: rehome@oldies.org.uk
Telephone: 0844 586 8656

He can be rehomed anywhere on the UK mainland – the closer to his foster home the better – subject to a satisfactory home visit. Note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to collect him.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
