Poor Celia has been through a terrible time and has a sad story to tell:
On Safe Rescue’s most horrific trip to Romania in February 2021, Celia was a skeletal dog found in a pen with 6 or 7 other dogs in an abusive, private shelter in Romania. She was really too emaciated and weak to stand. The other dogs in her pen were very friendly and confident and a reasonable weight, so clearly they weren’t letting her eat.
Celia had to get in a pen on her own because she was dying there. She was fed whilst waiting for her pen to be ready. She was then moved to where she would be fed daily and someone would actually notice if any were starving right before their eyes! With thanks to friends at Dog Rescue Norway, Celia spent almost a year in a safe and secure pen.
Celia is a medium-sized Collie Cross aged around 7 years old. Despite being treated kindly and visits from volunteers when possible, Celia never got past her fear of people. When it came to preparing her for travel, she had to be tranquillised by dart gun because she would bite any hand that came near her. Regardless of her behaviour, Celia had to be rescued and so she had to come to the U.K. no matter what.
Knowing very well that Celia could be a dog who would never be touched by humans, in the months that she’s been in foster care in Norwich, Norfolk, Celia has surprised everyone. She is now enjoying walks and asking for fuss when the mood takes her. She will probably always be wary of strangers but has proven she can trust and love people who take the time to earn it.
Celia will need at least one other calm dog in her forever home. She likes to play at times and is always kind to other dogs. Celia would like a quiet home environment. She has a fear of people picking up things like brooms, etc. due to experiences of her past. It can only be imagined the horrors of what she has been through at the hands of humans.
Safe Rescue have a policy that all dogs adopted from them must wear a slip lead on walks. Please only enquire about Safe Rescue dogs if you are happy to always use a slip lead – extendable leads are not acceptable to Safe Rescue. All dogs have to be collected and a crate must be used. Full details of their rehoming policy are on Celia’s details on Safe Rescue’s Facebook.
