Cuddly George (Oldies Club Sponsor Dog)

George is a 15 years old JRT X who arrived in Oldies Club in April 2024. His owner had sadly gone into a care home and the family who inherited him had plans to travel so couldn’t look after him long term.

George arrived and quickly checked out the ground floor of his new foster home and the garden. He had no issues settling and slept all  through the night until 7am. He seemed in pretty good nick for his age apart from being deaf and having poor eyes. There were no urgent concerns for him.

All seemed well with George and he was in the vets for his booster when the vet discovered a suspicious lump in his stomach. They wanted George to have an ultrasound scan before signing him off for rehoming. Sadly the scan results revealed George to have a large mass originating on his spleen and potential nodules on his liver. Sadly George was not a candidate for surgery as  it had already spread.

Due to having an inoperable mass and having unknown time left, Oldies Club made the decision to place George in our sponsor dog scheme, which means he will remain at his lovely foster home on a permanent basis, with the charity paying his vet bills for the rest of his life.

Initially George wasn’t a dog who would sit on his fosterer’s lap or next to them on the sofa but as he settled he became more affectionate. At first he wasn’t keen on his male fosterer picking him up, and would wriggle about a bit, but was happy for the fosterers’ daughters to pick him up. George doesn’t have a problem with men at all, it just seems he’s more relaxed with females when it comes to cuddles, Nowadays he is more settled and relaxed which means he loves cuddles with everyone especially his fosterers.

George enjoys his walks. He tends to follow the same routine he had in his previous home which included at least 2 good walks every day and his chew reward after it.  He doesn’t mind whether they are short or long walks but he does need a rest day following a long walk. He is an old man after all.

George enjoyed a trip out to the seaside including a paddle in the sea and joining his foster family for a fish and chips lunch (just some fish for George). Weekly beach visits are now a thing in the good weather and George now has a little swim thoroughly enjoying himself.

George has been out to his local community centre coffee morning and just as he is so lovely people enquire about him so he has been doing his best to promote Oldies Club’s work.

He is a little darling and gets on with everyone in the family who adore him especially his fosterers. He is also very good with all dogs that come to visit from time to time.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor George, or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
