22/10/24 – Sadly Georgie’s health went downhill suddenly and he has now passed away. Sleep tight little one

Georgie is a 15 years old JRT X who arrived in Oldies Club in April 2024. He had grown fearful of the toddler in the household and with another baby on the way his owners felt the environment was no long suitable for him.

Georgie arrived at his foster home and quickly seemed to settle in and explore. Initially there were issues with Georgie’s toileting but thankfully his fosterers started his training straight away. It is still hit and miss but thankfully they are very patient with him.

His vet checked revealed that Georgie has a heart murmur and tests also revealed he has a liver issue. The fosterers were given prescribed medication and a powder in the hope this would help to be reviewed after a few weeks. Unfortunately the blood tests revealed his liver enzymes were through the roof. Due to his age there is nothing more that came be done apart from keep him comfortable but sadly Georgie may not have much longer.

Due to his liver issues and having unknown time left, Oldies Club made the decision to place Georgie in our sponsor dog scheme, which means he will remain at his lovely foster home on a permanent basis, with the charity paying his vet bills for the rest of his life.

Georgie is very friendly but as his sight isn’t the greatest he cannot always tell where the resident dog is despite being a ball of fluff. She was at first being cautious of him although he was keen to make friends. When he gets close to her he barks and wags his tail at her. Inside she isn’t overly fussed with him but they get on well outside.

Georgie enjoys going on walks and despite his age doesn’t show signs of stiffness even after 3/4 mile trundle around the village. He also enjoys a potter around in the garden and likes to follow one of his fosterers up to the vegetable patch.

He has slept well in his basket in the kitchen since the first night but Georgie’s favourite place is the sofa for catching zzzs. Despite being a poorly little fella Georgie is perky and happy in himself. Hopefully this will continue for some time.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Georgie, or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
