Cheeky chappy Jacko is a 9-year-old Shar Pei Cross in the care of Stokenchurch Dog Rescue in Buckinghamshire. He’s been waiting there in kennels since his owner sadly passed away and everybody loves him! He’s medium-sized, about 17kg. The rescue only rehome dogs to within a 50 mile radius.
Jacko can live with sensible older children and would be fine with a calm, friendly dog as long as introductions went well. He is generally good with other dogs and only ever errs on the side of being too excited and pushy with some. With many, he’ll just greet them and then go about his day. He does not hold with cats though.
Jacko can be shy with strangers but soon warms up to people. He loves all the staff at the rescue. Once he’s bonded with you and has settled in, his character will come to the fore. He needs an experienced owner as he can be very stubborn! He does mean well, but he likes getting his own way. Some on-going training would be both useful and fun for him.
Jacko is clean in his kennel and will hold on until he’s taken out to do his business. He loves going out exploring but can’t have a lot of exercise as he has trouble with his hips. A garden to mooch about in is a must for him.
Jacko is on pain relief for his ouchy hips which manages the issue well, as long as he doesn’t do too much charging about. He also takes apoquel and has medicated baths for an underlying skin condition. You can see from his handsomeness that this keeps it under control and he’s such a loveable boy, he’s well worth some TLC!
One of his cheeky traits is that he will get into bins, given half the chance. If you’ve ever had a dog who’s a genius at finding scraps of food, you will be used to making sure Jacko’s nose stays out of where it doesn’t belong!
