Adorable girl Trixie is a 12-year-old Patterdale Terrier x English Bull Terrier (she weighs 17kg and is 15 inches tall to the shoulder). Trixie came into rescue because the children in her home were too boisterous for her. She is in an Oldies Club foster home in Welling, Kent, while she waits for the perfect retirement home.
Summary: Trixie loves company and needs a home where her main human is around most of the time. She can live with a confident cat but not another dog, as in some circumstances, she doesn’t hold with them. She has near infinite energy for walkies and likes to play at home, especially in the garden. She can live with sensible teenagers but not younger children as she’s sensitive to noises. She is very affectionate and loves to snuggle!
Needs company: Trixie must live with someone who is at home most of the time and will bring her along when they’re out, if possible. She is vocal if left. She follows her foster carer around, generally being helpful and happy to surpervise whatever job needs doing. When her foster carer goes out without her, someone else dog sits but Trixie doesn’t relax until her foster carer returns.
Other dogs better just watch it!: Trixie does not approve of other dogs she sees on walks and will bark and rush at them. She’s easy enough to control but it’s simplest to walk her in places where you can avoid such encounters. She has lived happily with another dog before and tends to be polite is she meets new dogs in an indoor setting. It’s just out and about that she feels the need to ward them off. She protects her food from other animals as well, so she’d better be the only dog in the home to ensure her (and everyone else’s) peace of mind.
Good with confident cats: Trixie has lived with cats previously and there’s a resident cat at her foster home which she gets along with well. She did chase it a few times during the first couple of weeks but gradually realised it was part of the family, not a baddie after all, and now they sleep side-by-side. A nervous cat wouldn’t do but a confident one would soon find Trixie to be their friend.
Fine with older children: Trixie doesn’t want to live with young children, but sensible teenagers should be OK. She does love fuss, playing and general activity about the place.
Loves walks and adventures: She loves getting out and about and is great on the lead. Her recall is hit and miss so she stays on a very long lead and loves going for walks in the woods. She’s happy to go out whenever you want to take her and she loves exploring new places. She needs a minimum of two 30-minute walks a day, plus some garden time for playing, snuffling and sunbathing.
Excellent in the car: Trixies loves car rides! Being on the back seat with her human up front and the world going by, not to mention the promise of adventure at the other end, that’s bliss to Trixie.
Trixie’s favourite pastimes: She loves treats and cuddles, and nice walks in the woods to explore.
Trixie’s dislikes: She becomes anxious at the vets and being apart from her main person is her biggest worry. She also dislikes the vacuum cleaner and will air snap at it when it’s doing its thing. She doesn’t mind it if it’s unarmed though!
Her ideal home: Trixie needs a home with someone around all day, and with a garden as she loves to sniff around. She also wants a home where she will be allowed to sleep on the bed with you. Her foster carer has a set of steps that help Trixie get on the bed. She can jump up herself but sometimes finds it difficult. She’s fine getting on the sofa though!
Health notes: Trixie is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and has been wormed and flea-treated. She has some itchiness at times and is on a gastrointestinal/hypoallergenic diet to help manage this and her windiness. Even on this diet, she still scratches, and her foster carer suspects it is related to general anxiety. Sometimes if she’s left alone, she will puddle in the house but her foster carer puts down puppy pads which manages this. She has lost some vision but this doesn’t seem to affect her ability to live life to the fullest.
More from Trixie’s foster carer: “Trixie is loving, loyal, playful and cuddly. Trixie came into my home after a very long car journey, but straight away she was full of love and kisses. She settled in after a couple of days. She gets anxious at times but is getting better. She has daily walks in the woods where she loves to walk at her own pace, sniffing around. She is always happy to go out and bounces around in excitement. Trixie loves to be with you all the time, so if you’re looking for a loyal companion, Trixie is your girl. She has so much love to give. At night she likes to sleep by your side and sleeps through till you wake up. Trixie loves bedtime and as soon as the TV goes off she gets excited, heads for her bed and awaits her bedtime treat and snuggles!”

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
