Sweet Mavis is a small, brown Crossbreed who weighs 8kg and is 7 years old. She originally came from Romania but is now safe in the care of Chilterns Dog Rescue Society in Tring, Hertfordshire, looking forward to finding her forever home.
So sadly, originally Mavis had been discovered abandoned under a bridge. She had managed to fight her way out of the plastic bag she had been tied up in and give birth to 3 puppies. In spite of such a traumatic background, Mavis is a very calm, gentle, friendly dog who asks very little of life. She enjoyed a very happy Christmas at the Rescue Centre and is just hoping the new year will bring her a new home and all the luck she deserves.

Mavis enjoys her walks and appreciates all the care and attention the staff at the Rescue Centre share with her. She would be best suited to a quiet home with a secure garden and someone home for much of the day to keep her company. Regular walks will be important as she is quite active. She could live with teenagers but it’s not known how she reacts to cats.
Mavis would be happy to be an only dog or join a home with a compatible canine friend. She has had limited experience of car travel but she has behaved well when taken to and from the vets. She is clean in her kennel.
Mavis is such a lovely dog, staff at CDRS expected her to move swiftly into her forever home. Then there was another twist in her story because, on arrival, Mavis was diagnosed with glaucoma in her right eye. She had already lost sight in this eye so, to relieve the intense pain, Mavis underwent an emergency operation to have it removed. She has made a miraculous recovery.
It is not known whether Mavis lost her sight due to an inherited form of Glaucoma or whether it was due to a secondary cause, such as previous infection or injury. Her remaining eye has been assessed as normal and stable, but anyone offering a home to Mavis needs to be aware that there is a possibility of the condition developing in her remaining eye which could ultimately result in blindness. It is therefore of the utmost importance that Mavis is settled and secure in her new home so that, should the worst happen, she still feels happy and confident enough to enjoy life to the full.
