Beautiful girl Reon is a 3-year-old Akita in the care of Rescue Remedies at their boarding kennels near Gatwick on the Surrey/West Sussex border. She’s in urgent need of a foster/end of life home as she sadly has a kidney condition which is rapidly declining and the rescue are desperate for her to have home comforts and TLC in her remaining time. She can live with older children, other friendly dogs apart from Terriers but not cats.

Reon came into rescue with her brother Haruto and he’s still there and also seeking a home. If you wanted to make two dogs very happy, you could always take them both in!

A volunteer dog walker recently said, “This was my first walk with Reon, while Chris walked Haruto. She was very welcoming in her kennel and went for a full on friendly hug with paws on my shoulders. I then got her collar and harness on, clipped her leads and off we went.

“She was a bit unsure at first, but she then relaxed into the walk. She didn’t mind the traffic, but preferred the woods – and loved a couple of blackberries. She walked with slack leads and enjoyed sniffing about. I felt like walking a beautiful teddy bear.”

Another said, “Reon, the bestest friend you could wish for. A big sweetheart, with a soft and gentle soul. Very loving girl who loves her kisses and most of all, her cuddles. Reon has a playful side, whether that’s zooming/bouncing around the paddocks, playing with her toys or playing games with you. Walks lovely on the lead alone, but can pull while walking alongside her brother Haruto. Reon does like squirrels and isn’t keen on terriers. Reon is a real gem who has so much to give. If you’re looking for an affectionate cuddle monster with a goofy and playful side, she’s the one for you.”

The condition Reon has is Polycystic Kidney Disease, a genetic slow progressing and irreversible disease characterised by the presence of cysts in the functional areas of the kidneys. Cysts grow and expand replacing the normal kidney tissue, as a result, the functionality of the kidneys declines, the disease is likely to end with chronic renal failure.

Rescue Remedies say, “She has retained her weight and looks healthy but she is drinking over 3 bowls of water a day and although continent she is weeing regularly and in volume. She could be placed on a special diet but it wouldn’t have a great impact. Her 2 blood tests within 3 weeks apart show definite decline.

“We are very upset and coming to terms with the sad news. She is such a special dog and we are happy to home her individually if that means she gets out of kennels sooner so we capitalise on what time she has left. Reon needs someone who’s committed and around at home a lot due to her needing regular pee breaks and making sure her water is topped up. She needs a loving and playful home because she is energetic and has so much love to give!”

Please note that Rescue Remedies has a policy of all adopters committing to keep adopted dogs on the lead at all times when out and about.
