18/9/2024 Cute Silver has found a lovely home with his friend!

Silver is an 8-year-old miniature poodle who is being rehomed by Starfish Dog Rescue. He is being fostered in Gloucestershire in an adult family home with other dogs and a cat.
Silver came from a breeder. He was given up, along with a group of other older poodles and two unsold puppies that had gone past the cute stage. He was very unsettled to begin with and worried. He paired up in foster with Alvin who is only 8 months but gentle Silver has taken him under his wing and been so lovely with him, he even washes Alvin’s face. They curl up together, eat together and rely on each other for comfort.

As time has gone on, more of Silver’s character is coming out as he is starting to relax and trust. This takes time, as he is older, but seeing him walk around with a toy, or play with Alvin, his little charge, in the garden is lovely.

Silver had a day out to an agility show and was more confident than expected. He particularly liked the cake stall as he was fed treats and bits of cake. It is lovely that he is coming out of his shell as he has previously been very shut down.
He gets along well with the other dogs, can be a bit suspicious of new dogs and wary, but once he knows them he will relax. He gets on well with the cat and he completely ignores her.
Silver is friendly with people and not that nervous, just craves attention. He travels fine in the car and walks well on the lead. His foster carer has walked him off the lead in woodland with no problems. He always keeps an eye on you and walks by your heels most of the way, but is getting more adventurous. He has had no accidents in his foster home.

Healthwise, his poor mouth is infected and his breath is terrible due to having rotten teeth. He is booked in for a dental around the time of writing. He also had a very badly infected ear, and ear mites, for which he has received treatment and is now much improved and has stopped shaking his head. He must have been in so much pain with his ears and teeth. No other health issues have been noted. He will feel much better when his rotten teeth have been removed.
Silver is not a difficult or complicated dog but his character is not there yet. He is still very needy, and going through the motions at times, but he will bounce back in time.
He needs a home with another dog as he takes confidence and comfort from dogs. He copies them in the garden and in the car. He has shown a few glimmers of wanting to play with Alvin and had some runs around the garden already. He needs to be with another dog that will bond with him and let him curl up with them.
His human family needs to be adult only, but he would cope fine with visiting grandchildren. He just needs gentle, kind people who have experience of rescue dogs and are looking for a dog that wants to be with his people.
Silver is microchipped, neutered, flea/wormed and has started his vaccinations.
