4/4/24 – Bella has gone off to her new home!
Bella is a beautiful 10-year-old small black Labrador who came into rescue as she wasn’t happy around the new baby in her home. Bella is in an Oldies Club foster home in Battle, East Sussex, waiting for someone to offer her a permanent home.
Summary: Pretty Bella took around 3 weeks to settle at her foster home. She’s happy to be left on her own when you need to go out, but is looking for an adult home, or where children are sensible teenagers. She has potential to live with cats. Excellent in the car, Bella loves a trip to the beach. She doesn’t like loud traffic, nor bicycles, so walks in quieter places suit her best.
Good when left: Bella has been fine when left for up to 4 hours at her foster home. We think that she would even be fine living with, for instance, people who work from home but go into the office for part of the week, provided Bella had a walk in the morning, lunchtime and evening.
Needs to be your only dog: Bella isn’t happy around other dogs and is looking for a home where she will be your only one.
Used to live with a cat: We were told by her previous owner that Bella used to live with a cat and was fine with it. She hasn’t been introduced to any cats during her time in foster care, so we cannot be sure, but Bella does ignore cats when out and about. She may have potential to live with a cat.
Could live with older teenagers: As Bella came to us because she didn’t like being around a baby, and she seems to be uncomfortable around children generally, an adult home, or one with teenagers who are sensible and calm around dogs, is needed for Bella.
Loves walks: Bella enjoys her walks and is very good on the lead. She ignores most dogs when out walking, but does growl if off-lead dogs come close to her. She is currently having walks of 5 minutes in the morning (or just out in the garden first thing) then 20 to 30 minutes during the day, and finally 10 minutes before bed. Walks in quieter places suit Bella best as she can be frightened of traffic, and she must be kept on a lead if bicycles might approach.
Very good in the car: Bella is excellent in the car. She is happy to sit quietly on the back seat with a harness, or in the boot. She is happy to jump into the boot of the car unaided.
Bella’s favourite pastimes: Beautiful Bella is a gentle soul who loves a tummy tickle. She has the waggiest tail ever and will often turn in a circle when excited. She loves a ball and will roll it around the kitchen floor. She also loves a trip to the beach!
Bella’s dislikes: Bella is anxious around children. On walks she sometimes cowers away from traffic noise such as lorries and bikes. If you reassure her or move her away from the road she quickly calms down. Bella is startled by bicycles and must be kept on the lead if there are cyclists around as she feels it is her role to protect her people from these strange, scary objects.
Bella’s ideal home: She needs a home with a couple or single person, or a family with calm teenagers. You must have your own, secure garden as she enjoys being out in the garden. Bella is very good with adult visitors to the home. She wags her tail and is pleased to greet the visitors. At night Bella is happy to sleep on her comfy cushion and blanket in the kitchen.
Health notes: Bella is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea-treated. Bella has no health issues. She has a grain-free diet as her previous owner told us that other foods upset her tummy.
More from Bella’s foster carer: “Bella is beautiful, sweet-natured and fun, and very loving and gentle within the house. Precious Bella has the waggiest tail, loves making new friends and loves lots of cuddles and attention. She is protective of us when we are out and about in the sense that she likes to see where we all are and waits if either of us stops. She likes us all to be together on a walk, like she is herding us, haha! She is always so pleased the see you first thing in the morning. She is very good at letting you know if she needs the toilet and needs to go out. She also lets you know when it’s breakfast, and will hum for her breakfast whilst she is waiting. She is excellent at night, she sleeps well and doesn’t create any disturbance, so long as you get up by by 8 o’clock. She goes to bed without any issues. She knows some commands like “in your bed” when it is bedtime. She understand her name, and will sit for a limited time to receive treats.”

She can be rehomed anywhere on the UK mainland – the closer to her foster home the better – subject to a satisfactory home visit. Note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to collect her.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
