‘OLD DOG OF THE WEEK’ FEATURES NEW PHOTOS AND A FRESH WRITE-UP FOR AN OVERLOOKED OLDIE THAT HAS BEEN ON OUR WEBSITE FOR A WHILE BUT IS STILL WAITING FOR A NEW HOME.
Please help Beau Beau by sharing this page!
Soppy girl Beau Beau (Beau for short) is a 10-year-old Whippet X English Bull Terrier. She’s in the care of Rescue Remedies at their boarding kennels near Gatwick, on the Surrey/West Sussex border but has regular foster breaks from kennels and has proven herself a delight in the home. She is now looking for a full time foster or permanent home.
Beau Beau wants to be the only pet at home. On walks, she doesn’t like unknown dogs being too familiar or bouncy and can be reactive with some. However, she loves snuffly walks with calm dogs who she met before and deemed acceptable. She loves meeting humans on walks and tends to get a bit of fuss from most people she meets.
Beau Beau can live either in an adult-only home or with older, dog savvy children. She is such a good girl in the home and can be left for a while, with the radio on, with seemingly no ill effects.
There are a couple of caveats when it comes to her Good Girl status. She loves snuggly beds (human beds) and any food which looks abandoned to her will quickly be tidied up!
Her foster carer said, “Beau brings such warmth and love when she comes to stay. The cuddles and snuggling up to sleep alongside or even on you are wonderful. Despite allergies I find myself kissing her head. She is cheeky and no food is safe if left unattended, nor is the bed if the door left open.
“She loves her walks, pulling a bit at first as so excited but settling down once we get going. She will say hello to some dogs, ignore others and sometimes be feisty with others. This is where the on lead policy helps and so far other owners have been brilliant if I ask them to put their dog on a lead. We keep hoping for a foster that don’t have to return her each week and who appreciate an older lady who is still full of love and, to be honest, cheek!”
Being a very intelligent lady, she has something to say herself, “Beau Beau here. Thank goodness that cold snap is over. The human has been lying on the sofa whinging and drinking loads of something called honey and lemon. Well she is still sneezing but has told me feeling a lot better.
My walks have been shorter but looking forward to longer walks now the moaning one is on the mend. She did ask the other humans to walk me, but I didn’t want to walk with them. I had to make sure the ill one is ok, so I have spent lots of time snuggled on the sofa.
Still love a zoomies and I keep barking to frighten those shadows away. But a firm “ah ah!” and loads of fuss normally stop this. They keep going on the Rescue Remedies forum to see if anyone has filled in a homing form for me. No luck yet, but I know my forever sofa is out there. I have so much love and fun to give.
All my woofs and cuddles…Beau Beau.”
In February Beau Beau went to the vet with a mammary tumour. The vet’s X-ray and found she also had masses on her lungs. As she seems OK in herself they have decided to let nature take its course. If she is fostered and not permanently homed she needs to be in South East of England so she could be taken to the rescue’s vet in Westerham in Kent for any treatment that might be needed in the future. For a permanent home this would not be a requirement.
If you might be able to give Beau Beau the retirement home and love she seeks, please contact Rescue Remedies as follows:
You’ll find their foster form and information HERE.
Or, if you’re thinking of adopting, read about the Rescue Remedies rehoming process here…
…then fill in their homing questionnaire here.
Please say you saw Beau Beau featured as Old Dog of the Week on the Oldies Club website.
