Beautiful Bella is a 13-year-old Spaniel x Collie who came into rescue due to a relationship break-up. She is in an Oldies Club foster home in East Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, waiting for someone to offer her a lovely permanent home.

Summary: Bella is simply a wonderful, calm and cheerful dog to have as a best friend. She is good with dogs and has been fine around older children. Bella would like a home were people are around a lot of the time, but she is fine to be left for a few hours provided she’s had a walk first. Bella will bring joy and peace to her new home. Sizewise, she currently weighs 28kg and is approximately 50cm to the shoulder and 76cm long.

Quickly settled: Bella took her sudden change of circumstances in her stride and it only took her a day to settle into life at her foster home.

Can be left for a few hours: Bella is fine to be left alone for a few hours, for example while you go out shopping, provided she has had a walk beforehand. She does like to have human company the majority of the time though, and she loves to be by her foster carer’s desk when they work from home. Bella would love a home with either retirees or home workers.

Very good with dogs: Bella has been very good with her two foster brothers. She quickly understood territories and boundaries. She also enjoys meeting other dogs on walks. She could definitely live with other dogs but she does prefer human relationships.

Needs a home without cats: There are no cats in Bella’s foster home but she has been overly interested in cats when out walking, so she is seeking a home where there are no cats.

Good with children: Bella has been fine with all of the children she has met, all over 10 years of age. She likes fuss but she doesn’t bother them if they lose interest.

Very good on walks: Bella is now able to walk twice a day, for up to 40 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the afternoon. She loves to go out and is excellent on the lead and doesn’t pull. We aren’t totally sure about her recall as she is very deaf, but when she’s off-lead she stays near you and follows hand signals. Her foster carers have only tried this recently, close to home. As well as her two walks, Bella also enjoys several garden breaks during the day and before bed.

Good in the car: Bella is a good girl in the car and she happily uses a ramp to get in and out.

Bella’s favourite pastimes: Being with her pack: she will follow the humans around the house, interested. She loves food and sleeping. She likes pottering in the garden and she is interested in toys but not when other dogs are around. She likes eating carrots. She does unfortunately also like eating her own pooh, but her foster carers are making progress on stopping her doing so!

Bella’s dislikes: Her foster carers haven’t found anything that Bella dislikes or is frightened of, but she came with a note that she didn’t like fireworks or shouting.

Bella’s ideal home: A peaceful, loving home is what Bella needs. She is such a sweet and cheerful dog and has been no trouble at all. She is house-trained, polite, loving, and frequently amusing. At night she sleeps on a dog bed in her foster carers’ bedroom.

Health notes: Bella is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea-treated. Bella has some fatty lumps and swellings that have been checked and are not suspicious. She has arthritis and takes painkillers twice a day: an anti-inflammatory liquid in the morning, and paracetamol & codeine tablets in the afternoon. This will be long term. Otherwise, she was given a clean bill of health.

More from Bella’s foster carers: “Cheerful, loving, calm and peaceful. Bella came to us for fostering 2 months ago after 13 years in her previous home. We are so sad not to be able to keep her. Since she has lost some weight, got active and had regular pain relief she has a new lease of life and will make someone a wonderful companion. She never barks, she never complains, she is a loving soul”.

Bella can be rehomed anywhere on the UK mainland – the closer to her foster home the better – subject to a satisfactory home visit. Note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to collect her.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
