Bertie (Chilterns Dog Rescue Society, Herts.)

Adorable Bertie is a 10 year old Bichon Frise who weighs 4.5kg. He came into the care of Chilterns Dog Rescue in Tring, Hertfordshire, from a dog pound with a female Bichon Frise, both having been picked up as strays.

Bertie before his groom!

Both dogs were in an extremely poor physical condition, very dirty and matted and significantly underweight (as one of the photos shows). In spite of the neglect Bertie has obviously suffered, he is bouncing back. He has had a short haircut and is now putting on weight.

Bertie has a cheerful, friendly nature and has made lots of new friends, human and canine, at the Rescue Centre. His favourite things are going for short walks and lots of attention. Bertie is hoping for a quiet home with lots of TLC and home comforts. He’s clean in the kennels and can be left for short periods like shopping trips.

Although they arrived as a pair, the dog Bertie arrived with is still undergoing medical investigations and is not yet ready to move on. However, as the two do not appear particularly dependent on each other, Bertie is now hoping for a happier new life, as an only pet or with a compatible canine friend.

Bertie is neutered and has a low grade heart murmur (Grade 2) which does not currently require any treatment. When he has gained some more weight, he would also benefit from a dental, possibly with extractions.
