Gentle lady Casey is a medium-sized Crossbreed girl of 10 years in the care of Rescue Remedies at their boarding kennels near Gatwick, on the Surrey/West Sussex border. She’s there through no fault of her own and everyone at the kennels loves her as she’s such a steady sweetheart. She wants an adult-only home and it’s not known how she’d be living with another dog but she is good with dogs on walks.
One volunteer walker said, “Casey and I went for a mammoth walk yesterday and it was thoroughly enjoyable for both of us. She decided she wanted to go into the village and, as everywhere is really muddy right now and Casey is not a particular fan of the mud, I felt that was a good choice. It’s a decent walk from the rescue down through the village and back, but with Casey enjoying every blade of grass, bush, road sign and occasional piece of pavement and rewarding them all with lengthy sniffs it took some time.
“Casey ignored every dog we passed, the 3 runners and the traffic, she is really just a star! She’s an older girl and we would all love to see her in a warm and loving home enjoying the comforts we just can’t provide at the rescue but whilst she waits for that home I will continue to try and get walks with her (she is incredibly popular) because it is such an enjoyable time.”
You can see more walkies reports, photos and video clips of Casey here. The common theme is that she’s a plodder and a snuffler but can keep plodding for a long way before getting tired. She’s almost completely bomb proof and will ignore even other dogs barking at her. On the very rare occasions when she does get het up, she’s very easily distracted. She loves treats (especially pieces of sausage), is attentive to her human and very affectionate with people she knows. The one word which pops up very often to describe her is lovely! Although a stately walker, she sometimes likes a charge about with a ball in a secure field.
Another walker said, “Well…for an older lady, Casey can move, especially when there is a ball. She would bring back and drop, her face a picture of being so proud of herself. Then off for a walk and a cuddle. Honestly, for a quiet adult-only home, Casey would make the sofa complete.”
Casey is on anti-seizure medication as she had one seizure 6 years ago. She seems to be not just fine but thoroughly robust and enjoying life to the full… albeit at her own pace. She’s hand shy around the head. If fussed or groomed around the head she can get snappy, which is obviously a fear response. She does enjoy bum scratchies sometimes and she isn’t shy of hands holding treats!
