Cosmo is a smallish Patterdale type terrier boy, about 8 years old currently being fostered in Norwich, Norfolk where Safe Rescue are really hoping that this time Cosmo finds his true forever home.
Safe Rescue saw Cosmo on one of their trips to Romania and immediately knew that he needed to escape the shelter and the sorry conditions he was having to live in. When he arrived in the UK he was the loving and friendly boy that they remembered, however he was not that keen on other dogs within the home, and this remains.
He was adopted soon after, but sadly returned to Safe Rescue recently. It seems that although Cosmo will approach everyone, seemingly wanting to be stroked and given affection, he then becomes fearful and this fear overtakes him and it is then that he can sometimes snap. This is no doubt down to the treatment he has endured before he arrived in foster, and why he is still fearful of those that he doesn’t know.
Cosmo therefore needs a quiet and calm home environment where he can take whatever time he needs to settle in, and gain his confidence. He seeks a life where he will not be made to meet lots of new people and experience new places. Given time, and it’s not known how long this will take, then Cosmo will make the most loving companion to some lucky person, but patience is needed and ideally someone with experience of caring for a fearful dog and also terriers.
Cosmo loves his walks and is good with dogs that he meets outside the home, but does need to be an only dog within an adult only home.
This boy has only ever known fear, and needs to be given time and space to understand that those around him want only to love and care for him.
Please note –Safe Rescue have a policy that all dogs adopted from them must wear a slip lead on walks. Please only enquire about Safe Rescue dogs if you are happy to always use a slip lead – extendable leads are not acceptable to Safe Rescue. All dogs have to be collected and a crate must be used.
