Dan is a very handsome, neutered Sabueso Hound. This is a scenthound breed with its origin in the far north of the Iberian Peninsula and has been used in this mountainous region for hundreds of years for all kind of game. The DOB in his passport is 01.01.2007 which would make him 18 but it’s believed he’s younger, around 11 or 12 years old. The Setter, Brittany and Pointer Rescue (SeBPRA) are helping him to find his new home.

Dan was found in a real sorry state of emaciation. His condition was so poor that the vets estimated his age at 10. He spent a year in foster in Spain as well as 3 years in kennels before coming to the U.K. Sadly, his first home didn’t work out but he then lived with a wonderful family for 7 years. He is sadly struggling to live with children in the house now and his adopters have made the heartbreaking decision that it’s in everyone’s best interest, including Dan’s, for him to move on and find an adult-only home that can truly spoil him rotten. He’s currently in kennels in Peterborough while he waits for his new home, so he’s eager to find his forever home as soon as possible.

Dan is a lovely old boy who is a creature of comfort and loves routine. He is a really easy and quiet house dog and is house-trained. He loves nothing more than to laze about in his bed or on the sofa. He is known not to get out of bed until 11am. He is fine to be left home alone for up to 8 hours, although he will search the house for any morsel of food and will counter-surf when you’re not looking.

Dan is a strong boy and pulls on the lead. He is currently walked on a flexi lead which works well for him as he can sniff the hedge rows at his own leisure. He struggles with passing lorries/trucks, though walking in the countryside and he’ll have his head down and sniff till his heart is content, like a typical hound. Due to his age, he only requires one medium walk a day. He travels well in the car.

Dan is an optimistic lad with buckets of character and loves nothing more than a good fuss from any adult. He currently lives with a calm female dog, however he would probably do better as an only dog from now on due to the change of routine.

Dan’s ideal home is with someone with experience (or willingness to learn) of reactivity and can read his signals to keep him and other dogs safe. On the whole, he will greet other dogs optimistically but off-lead/excitable dogs can cause him to get stressed. Overall, he is a lovely chap who will reward you with a lot of love and loyalty.
