Selma (Private Rehoming, Skegness)

Sweet Selma is a female, mixed coloured, Crossbreed weighing around 30kg. She was picked up in Romania when she had a litter of puppies in 2020 and has been with her owner in Skegness since then and, sadly, needs to look for a new home as described below:

Selma lives in a rural area and they’ve recently started using gunpowder bird scarers in the fields nearby. Selma has a phobia of gunpowder bangs – she is not bothered by loud noises in general, just gunpowder bangs, which may be due to her past as a street dog. Her owner has tried everything out there to desensitise her, but it has not really worked. As the bird scarers are on very often and all day long, Selma is scared to go out and does not enjoy her walks anymore, which is not fair on her.

Selma is about 8 years old and she is a lovely girl. She loves children and all people. She is fine living with a single owner, but she would prefer a busier family life. She is okay with most dogs though she would be a danger to small animals and poultry as she was a street dog for a while, so she hunts. She doesn’t like very boisterous dogs, but she does get used to them. It took her a week or so to tolerate a new dog in the home, but she just hid from her. They have been great friends since.

Selma is very good on the lead and used used to walk 4+ miles every day on the lead as she has not been reliable off lead. She would enjoy a large garden with good fencing. The most important thing is that wherever she goes, there must not be bird scarers nearby.

Selma can be left in the house and she just chills out. She travels okay in the car but can be a bit whingey. Selma is neutered and has no known medical issues. Selma’s owner has confirmed that she will take Selma back if her new home doesn’t work out for any reason. Prospective adopters will be carefully home-checked.
