Super cute Toby is an 11 year old (12 in June) Cavachon. Toby came to Wonky Pets Rescue a few weeks ago after his elderly owner went into care and there was no-one to look after him. He’s now safely enjoying life in a foster home in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, and would love to find his forever home soon. He can be rehomed further afield to the right home subject to a home-check and adoption donation of £175.
Toby is house-trained and he loves his walks; he walks nicely on the lead and he is quite happy on a long-line to be able to explore. It’s important that his new home can provide him with a good level of exercise to aid his weight loss and fitness. He will need a home with a nice secure garden to play in and he enjoys sitting out in the sunshine. He travels okay in the car too.
Toby has been used to a quiet home as an only dog and, whilst he is absolutely fine with other dogs, he has found it overwhelming coming into a busy foster home with lots of other dogs. He was very stressed and anxious at first and it took him a while to start finding his feet. He will be so much happier back in a quieter, experienced home, either as an only dog or with another single, friendly, neutered dog for company. He cannot be homed with cats unfortunately. Toby isn’t suited to be rehomed with children under 14 years old; he’s a bit worried around very small visiting children but older sensible visitors are fine.
Once he knows you and is settled, Toby is a sweet boy who enjoys a gentle fuss and will attach himself to you. He will need an experienced owner who can read a dog’s body language and recognise when he has had enough or not wanting attention. Toby has got a grumpy side and really isn’t a fan of the vets and being over-manhandled.
Toby is a great companion dog and does want to be with his person all the time. He will follow you around and come and sit with you when relaxing. He does get worked up when he can’t see you, so you really need to be prepared to have a shadow follow you around. He will initially whine and bark when left but does settle down after a while. He will need a home with someone who is around most of the time initially. He sleeps upstairs in his own bed in the bedroom at night and is no trouble.
Toby is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated and will be rehomed with 5 weeks’ free pet insurance. He is overweight (currently over 20kg) and is on a diet and exercise regime. He has a couple of age-related warts but otherwise is in good health. He will feel a lot better and more energetic once his weight comes down to a more suitable level.
